The elite will guarantee and bank on it. The 90's it was .com and the over-valuation of companies based upon future potential. The mid 04 era was the over-valuation of homes, high yield government contracts and numerous other catalysts. Then came 2007 to 2008, crude oil. Each era left an ample supply of millionaires and those less fortunate. I'm not sure we have seen the end of high dollar oil. If we were at the end, airlines would be hedging fuel as far into the future as they possibly could as an insurance against inflation; hasn't happen as those on the other end know there will be a resurgence and no one can agree on a middle point for futures beyond 90 days.

Kind of funny. When I worked at XXXX I sent in an online fuel savings tip. The tip was to consider hedging as far as possible into the future back when oil was $48 a barrel (I don't think SWA was even paying $30 back then). I got an honest reply; they disagreed on the price point. Now amount of single engine taxis will ever pay that off.

Oh well, it's water under the bridge now. Glad to hear bad hedging is behind us!

or a Second Great Depression.... definitely a decade of extremes.

The flight ops web site shows meetings planned for all bases including NRT and AMS. I think it is a merger update.

There is a rumor that the 787 first flight is delayed 2-3 months, Seattle Times says it might not fly this year and some say it could be delayed for another year. With the 748 coming along I wonder if that plane would fly before the 787?

AirTran $78M profit with a 13% drop in revenue.

Alabama represented how weak and over-rated the SEC really is. I don't watch college football anymore because the BCS champion is a paper champion determined by statistics and voters. Utah proved last year that what you do on the field does not matter. Anyone with a little common sense that watches college football knew the Alabama/Utah game was going to be close.

Whatever happened the so called compensation or order changes on the NWA ordered 787's?

My money says we will not see the 787-800 at DAL, ever.

Also betting that money gets paid to settle a "replacement aircraft" arbitration.

Our options and their late delivery will become the negotiating capital Delta will use to get something else. We have them over a barrel and now that we use both Boeing and AB products, we are in a good position.

Personally, I'm a Boeing guy. At the end of the day when everything goes Tango Uniform, in Boeing you are still flying. In an Airbus, you are in a gliding coffin OR in the Air France case, falling scrap metal.

I don't see the 747-8 fitted with a red widget anytime soon. See:
Boeing reveals full length 747-8
THis is one XL airplane and Delta has never been a fan of XL (except for F/A's). Negotiations will involve the fair-haired wonder 777. The $64, 000 question is if they get -300 or more -200LR. Will we need something as large as -300 or is the LR's gross wt. more valuable? If there is another delay, I would be very surprised to see the 787 in any variant on property before 2014 when our 76ER leases start expiring. Then who knows what EADS will offer us. Just a guess though.
