On the early outs, I just went and counted up some numbers;
747=29 Capt. + 9F/O
330=41 Capt. + 3F/O
767ER=46 Capt. + 1F/O
320=31 Capt.
In this A/E, they replaced 22 of the 29 747 Capts. and a whole bunch of A330, 767Er and 320 Capts., so I don't see a 'MOAB' coming in Oct. Perhaps just some 737 and 717 possitions, for next summer's schedule.
Elvis: No, I've never flown an Airbus but am looking forward to it!!

Here's a question...
I'm starting a 4 day tomorrow that I was pretty sure I was going to end up calling in sick for two days ago. Feeling fine now so I'm going to work, but my mother-in-law is out flying around on a buddy pass. Now, obviously, I know we are expected not to nonrev while we're out sick, but what about spouses, kids, buddies, etc? I was getting worried about hanging my mother-in-law out to dry if I had to sick out. Anyone know the actual policy?

To Sinkingr8's point, when it comes time to get the 717s it will come time for the DC9s to leave. Probably perfectly timed such that you can MD pilots out of the 9 and right into the 717 with the assumption most would do it.
If I'm not mistaken, a a pilot’s VD or MD bid into a category will supersede a more senior pilot’s AE bid to that category, right? So If they MD 100 DC9 pilots and have vacancies for 100 717 pilots and for arguments sake 100% go to the 717, no pilots from outside the 9 could AE into the 717.
Is that right?
So if you're thinking I want to fly the 717 and you're not on the 9, and your friends often refer to you as an Eeyore, chances are you're really looking at 2014 at the earliest to fly the 717?

I don't think that will be right at least for the initial bid establishing the base and category. If I remember right, with a new base and category, it will be awarded in strict seniority order. I can't quote the contract but I'm pretty sure it's correct.

Just about but probably right especially given the age of the group and the amount that have military commitments.
We got (rounding here) around 11,990 pilots on the list. Take out nearly 700 on sick leave, 200 on furlough, a little under 300 on military leave, 100 that are instructing and almost 20 that are supervisors and you're left without about 10,600-10,700 flying the line.
So of the not on property guys on sick, military or furlough they account for almost 1,200 pilots or around 10% of the list.
Of that, 1 pilot is Newk.
He is 1 in 11,991.

Across the country no fewer than 3.2 million seniors are graduating about now from more than 37,000 high schools. That’s 37,000 valedictorians… that’s 37,000 class presidents… 92,000 harmonizing altos… 340,000 swaggering jocks… 2,185,967 pairs of Uggs. But why limit ourselves to high school? After all, you’re leaving it. So think about this: even if you’re one in a million, on a planet of 6.8 billion that means there are nearly 7,000 people just like you.
Does anyone else have an issue with junior guys getting reinstated going ahead of a more senior guy who was trying to bid into that category? Or am I TOTD material?

That's the rules of the Delta A/E game.
How would you like to be displaced in the last bid, but then not be able to get back when there are opeings in the next A/E, because some senior swine from somewhere else keep jumping in on top of you?
Don't hate the Play'a, hate the game.
You could ask them to change the rules of the game, of course the reinstated guys are not going to want to do that...
No, not really, although I get it. I think guys who held a position and were displaced should get some sort of priority in reinstatement. Which begs the question, why hadn't the senior guy bid into that position in the first place? The current system attempts, I think, to tamp down constant new training issues. I support that.
