Besides, DL CASM continues to increase because of capacity dicipline and JB (and others) CASM continues to remain lower because we allow them to live in perpetual growth mode. Those lines will continue to diverge in our drive for short term quarterly smash, yet the more the lines diverge the more we will think further capacity reductions are in order. Quarterly bonuses > sustainable business models any day in today's B schools.
What you forget Gloopy which has been shown time and time again and even has a name (SouthWest Effect) is that if your CASM is low enough you can generate traffic in markets that otherwise would not support service. Southwest has seen cost increases that price them out of a market that was named for them. JB however still has that ability. The lower the fare level you can offer and still make money in a specific market the higher the number of potential customers.
You also forget one other huge factor when you speak about Boston. AMR is coordinating schedules with JetBlue. They are giving them many very good routes that once were flown by American especially in the SJU and Caribbean Markets. AMR drops a BOS to SJU market and the next day JB starts up that flight at the exact same time. Net number of seats in that market does not change.

The recent work rule giveaway (OK we will call it a trade for sweaty cash) and "increased inefficiencies" are about to make a reserves life even more miserable and have a trickle down effect to line holders ability to pick up time and do what they used to enjoy doing in the past. While that is happening guys like SF will be blowing smoke up your behind telling you what a great deal you got. Oh yeah, about that "near term 1000 job increase" your buddy SF keeps talking about, in about 6 months he will tell you "Its the economy stupid". If it wasn't for that darn economy staying down everything would have worked out just as promised.

I feel you pain. Some day I hope this pilot group fire the misguided incumbents at the top and get some quality long term thinking leadership that work for the pilot group instead of selling nonsense while berating those they are tasked with representing. Until that happens, hang in there....turbulence in your schedule ahead.
That leadership is terrible. No pilots on furlough, A contract that is industry leading in the passenger industry. Raises that blow everyone else in the industry away over the last 5 years. Lump sum pots of cash everyone seems to forget about. Planned hiring, 208 new aircraft in the next 4 years. This in one of the worst economic eras in history.
Its funny how I ride a lot of jumpseats to my main job and my hobby job. All I get is barraged with questions on how to get hired at Delta. Very strange. Must be that terrible union leadership!.

No, people want to work at Delta because of the better management team than at their current airline.

You should try running for President with a BS platform like that! Planned hiring? That's either rediculously naive or incredibly funny. I'm not sure which. As for your RJ friends, they can't wait to go anywhere else. Nice try.

No no. The real trick is not telling them about it at all. Then work in how we took it in the shorts and only get paid once a month now -- the 30th, of course.

Then, if he can pull it off, Buzz can get all the metro stuff he wants.

No one has been turned down as far as I know. I don't know after pulling letters the exact distribution. It strongly favored the 59 to 61 age range at the original 251 number. Looking at the list of actual retirement numbers I suspect that ratio stayed about the same. I am sure that data will be out in a day or two.

R and I will publish a breakdown later tonight. I asked our chair and that is what he told me.
