As an MD-88B I once DH to CAE to fly one leg back to ATL. When the aircraft came in, I went up to the cockpit to make my nest. The FO said "Are you deadheading?" I said, "No you are." Scheduling hadn't told him he was a 30/7. He DH to ATL and then continued his rotation. Again, not sure if we can do that now.
Actually, a 30/7 gave me one of my few good deals ever from scheduling (this is a few years ago). I accepted an inverse assignment on a Sunday that was one leg LAX-FLL and DH home. I flew the leg, went to the hotel to catch some sleep (5 hours), deviated from DH to JS home (I'm a commuter), so about 20 hours of pay for less than 24 hours of work, and then had a 30/7 violation on my 4 day later in the week, deviated from DH (again direct home) 1 day early. Got around 35 hours of pay in one week - only GS I've ever had.

Since I'm a SEA guy and would not bid the 330 anywhere else, I wonder how often SEA reserves are called on to cover out of base Africa trips. I guess I could avoid it by not getting the theater qual. That is unless I got it on a TOE. DOH! Anyway, I'm just what if'n right now.

The best thing about bidding it is I might get to fly with Ferd!

Ask your FO Rep. He sits reserve occasionally.
