I didn't know there was anything that procluded talking about my situation and looking for anyone else outhere stuck in purgatory. Proprietorial implies that DALs hiring process is a secret, far from it actually. Hell they admit during the interview to the amount of info about the process on the internet being shared. It's almost a form of CRM. In the absence of information, I think anyone would use all available assetts to their advantage. Interesting first post though...

Redeye, Yep I read that linked post before. Good post and very true. People like Carson lived in a more civilized age it seems. People today will run to AirTran, jetBlue, Alliegent, or whoever just to save $1. Forget all the experience. The allmighty $.

I hear that DAL pilots can still get hired if they trip up the psych portion. That was the general statement from an actual Delta pilot who busted that portion but eventually made it. I don't have much more information. Maybe you need to go back and re-do that part again?

Good luck!

Sounds like someone from the HR dept. Ok, here's the bait:

Delta for more than 20 years has made a hiring practice to do the following:

Identify each applicant along a bell curve distribution in several areas: Psychology, Aptitude, Experience, Promotion and career advancement, etc.

Then eliminate applicants that are on the extreme end of any curve.

Then average the curves of each applicant to find out where they fall on an "average curve"

Then pick from the middle to the right. Avoid any applicants below average and any way above average.

Ok, there you go the cat is out of the bag!

Fire away!

OK that explains their management... no re-explain how they do it for pilots. I heard that at the end of an interview cycle, they take a bunch of applications, under the supervision of the shrink, of course, to the top of a ladder and drop them. Those applications that are face up are successful candidates. Those that land face down... well you know the rest. But those that land on against the wall curled up or down are treated to the same ladder project at the end of the next interview cycle.

Hire the average?

Isn't that the core of the movie Idiocracy?

You are adding absolutely nothing of value to this post. You have no clue on how DAL chooses a pilot. Your EXCUSE while elaborate and believable to some is FLAT WRONG!

DAL is not dumb. Your background is scrutinized before you are offered an interview. Things like Masters degree, Awards, Leadership, and type of flying weigh very heavy. There is a list on the DeltaNet website that shows you what qualifications are important to DAL when selecting a pilot for an interview. The very fact you got an interview should be the first hint they what you. They did not ask you to come to an interview so they could meet a hot $hit test pilot with a smoking wife. All they have to do to meet someone like this is walk down to the crew room. The fact is DAL is very much into pedigree. With that said DAL does not like cocky, arrogant pricks who think they are TOPGUN.

For all of you in the psych ward stay hopeful. I had a good friend make it through and another guy from my class was held up as well.
