There's no indication that this wouldn't have happened without PSC. The majority of pilots not making their commutes were coming from FL where JAX would arbitrarily issue ground stops because they weren't staffed correctly. Missed commutes WOULD have happened using current commuter language . I had one or two CA roll the dice and commute in on flights that were scheduled to get in after show time but even then, we got the flight out on time all but once.

Funny enough, AA doesn't require a back up for their commuters and everything seems to work over there.

If you have a backup flight you have a much better chance of getting there than taking the very last flight. I can assure you the company believes that. You are correct about where the main issue was plus some BOS to NYC commuters. The company handed us a great deal with that PS policy. They put some trust in us to use it wisely. It didn't go as planned.

During all of COVID I used a 1 hour rule between show time and flight arrival. that was a personal buffer. If closer, I took the earlier flight. Only had an issue once when ATL was destroyed by wx. Scheduling kept me on it with my delayed inbound and we left on time. Worked well imho. Currently, need 2 options.

I’d like to see us match this in our next contract, or at least drop the 2 hours between commuter flight options language.

If like to see clarity too. Because only one of the commute policies says 2 hours between. I can’t remember if it’s the FOM or PWA, don’t have them in front of me

Years and years ago the union put out a clarification that 2 hours wasn't needed between flights for the FOM policy. But I think FOP realizes that mistake and tries to claim 2 hours is required even though their policy doesn't say it is

Exactly. I remember the clarification, but many iterations of the PWA and FOM later, the disconnect still exists

Two hours contractually protects you from disciplinary action. The FOM policy gets you PS on the backup.

The way I understand it is you can pick the PWA clause or the FOM clause. The PWA says your backup flight has to be 2 or more hours after the first flight. Doesn’t say anything about the second flight being on Delta metal (from memory). FOM clause doesn’t mention 2 hours between but the backup must be Delta metal so they can PS you on it. You are getting what you are paying for from me BTW. DYODD.
