This right here. Like "just in time logistics", they hire just enough Trackers, Schedulers, Crew Assist, etc folks to manage normal ops, with zero ability to handle a major IROP, all while patting themselves on the back for thier 'IROP recovery' gains. Laugable in the lens of the last couple days.

I submit carrying an extra % of these low-salary folks is FAR cheaper than what the company has lost over the last 3 days.

I disagree in part. Even on a normal day, Crew Scheduling and Tracking waste a tremendous amount of money with blown trip assignments, missed reserve calls and ridiculous decisions even when they’re not time constrained.

They miss calling a pilot on reserve, now no one on SC, now that trip has to go out as a GS or IA, or they RR other pilots, in some cases paying quadruple pay for their eff up.

They could fix this with better automation, but who are we kidding. If you’re in charge of making decisions that could cost the company thousands, or maybe tens of thousands of dollars in direct payroll costs, there shouldn’t be anything “low salary” about it. And we’re not even talking about the indirect costs.

Then you get the meltdown scenarios, and it’s a dumpster fire.

Scheduling and tracking have been exactly the same way, with the exact sub par performance, for as long as I’ve been here. They can never seem to fix what appears to be a systemic, silo driven problem, which is actually characteristic of a lot of issues.

Im on the 330 and on vacation so my only visibility on this is APC and the media. Is this IROP affecting International at the same level or has it been much less for the WBs?

The Godfather.

First time?

(Used to worry about this stuff. Airlines are insanely complicated businesses. I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often).
"This is completely unacceptable. We need to find a way for our crews to get a hold of scheduling during an IROP." -- RA, a long time ago, during a previous IROP.

customer service lines span the length of the terminal. Same with the baggage claim lines in ATL. Pilots willing to fly but no one can get in touch with scheduling or tracking. Hours on hold.

34% cancellation yesterday

But as long as we wear our hats and stand around saying goodbye at the end of every flight, people will pay a premium to fly Delta.

I’m now on over 2 hours since I sent crew assist a message. It has yet to even be assigned to someone.
Go walk around the GO on a weekend and you’ll see why this problem was only going to get worse over the weekend.

At the rate they are deadheading people around right now they won’t be able to sell tickets to passengers because planes will be full of deadheaders.

I remember after our last meltdown that guy on SkyHub was “bragging” that he hired like 4 more crew trackers to bring the total to 8. Like how in the world do you think that’s adequate.

Been sitting at commuter airport since 7 am, suppose to fly to Europe late afternoon. Can not reach anyone at Delta via phone or app.
Neither can any of the passengers stuck with me. Patients are being tested for sure. Flights delayed or cancelled due to no crews. It is complete incompetence on all fronts. If you can avoid going to an airport today it would probably keep you sane. Might want to think about driving to work if you live within 5 hours. People are getting drunk and fed up, it's going to get interesting in an hour or so. Good luck
