Example…FL pilots could pick up flying out of base WS/GS starting in MCO/FLL/MIA (whatever base they open). Same can be said fromTexas, BoS, etc…

Most trips I’ve been getting called are DH to somewhere but I can’t go because deviating won’t get me there fast enough. Also flights are canceling and there’s no communication with the tracking, crew assist, etc.
That’s not the problem right now. There are plenty of pilots available, crew scheduling/tracking is just so underwater that they are playing wack-a-mole with pilots/FAs/aircraft.

A lounge in ATL was packed almost the entire day, mostly with pilots who had their flights cancelled (myself included) who were waiting around on a recovery or reroute.

CPO made multiple announcements asking anyone in the lounge waiting on an updated schedule or reroute to come into the office. He was sending messages directing to scheduling with who was in the lounge and available (awaiting schedule change/reroute/recovery) . It didn’t matter or help, most guys just sat around until they timed out.

Again, I’m all for more bases. But we could’ve had 69 pilot bases and I doubt it would’ve helped today.

Thank goodness ATL has been relatively weather free since the meltdown happened. A day with multiple thunderstorm waves and ground stops would practically blow up what’s left of our operation right now.

The Godfather.

First time?

(Used to worry about this stuff. Airlines are insanely complicated businesses. I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often).

Pilot assist response is now being measured in hours. Anyone remember the short-lived add on to iCrew Mobile where you use a menu to let tracking know you weren’t where they thought you were? That would be nice.

But I fail to see how a new base alleviates any of the chaos right now.
over half the pilots are commuters. Planes blocking gates because no crews. Crews to work those planes are stuck on the ramp on the planes wishing for gates.

if people lived in base they could just walk in vs having a commute cancel or being stuck hours waiting for the gate to open.

FA’s aren’t picking up the premium flying because they know they’ll be on the hook for a $1,500 / night hotel in some city since no one can get in touch with crew accommodations.

Lol, everyone has been getting calls at every base. This isn’t an ATL only issue. Unless you’ve been to an airport since this went down, I don’t think you can grasp the scope.

JFK and LAX are way more tame than ATL. ATL is a blood bath with cancellations.

I’m wondering if Crowdstrike or Microsoft will pay for damages. Im sure a hefty fine is coming their way from multiple companies / Uncle Sam

If anybody is stuck in ATL and unable to get home price a ride on LYFT. My normal 1 hour commuter flight canceled (all of them). A 3.5 hour LYFT was cheaper than a hotel room if you could even find one. The RR pay today will more than cover it!

This isn’t a surprise. Spent hours on the phone last summer stuck in RSW due to a ground stop in LGA. Did our own thing to get a ride and rooms and amused that other DAL crews at the bar had no idea there was an issue.

They run this place like a carrier doing 1:15 cycles day and night expecting nice weather and no sour tankers or foul decks… in other words one turd in the punch bowl and it can’t recover for a few cycles. It’ll be a week before this settles down.

Q3 earnings are gonna be terrible and our profit sharing will be all this reroute pay so enjoy.
