Not much different than the server issue in 2016. That took us about 7 days to unwind.

Again, the issue ends up being timely comms between our crews out there and tracking scheduling.

This is a known problem we've seen it before but nothing has been really done to remedy it.

Perhaps this event will be a catalyst for some real change in that regard

It is a complete and total meltdown. This is day 4 and things seem to be getting worse...not better!

Anyone know what the over/under is for millions in revenue lost over the last 72 hours? I'm guessing we're around $400 million.

This is the issue. Everything is snowballing. Flights show on time that have operating crew members that are in another city because their last flight canceled. Delays aren’t posted until past departure time. If it ever operates it’s so late crew days are pushed to the point of fatigue or exceeding FDP limits. All down line flights and crews are hosed. If it cancels then Commuters and DH crew are out of position for multiple same day/next day departures. It takes hours for scheduling to figure out that those crew aren’t in place, and the whole thing starts all over again.

Our issue now is comms. Like it always is during these meltdowns. With the software being down, they lost a good day and a half of decent tracking data they are trying to sort thru now. Crews not being able to timely communicate to tracking and or scheduling is now the larger issue. One that's been like that since, well ever.

Question is, will this finally be the catalyst to get some change. I don't know the answer to that
What’s your source for United having a smaller deployment of Microsoft products?

On day 1 (Friday), United cancelled or delayed 83% of its schedule. Delta cancelled or delayed 81% of its schedule. The initial impact of the CrowdStrike update was nearly identical at both carriers.
On day 2, United cancelled or delayed 54% of its schedule. Delta 81%.
On day 3, United cancelled or delayed 35%. Delta 80%.
As of day 4 (today), United is at 4%. We’re at 32% (and increasing rapidly).

The data points to the same first day impact at both airlines, followed by United rapidly outpacing us with their recovery.

Judging by the amount of parked airplanes across the world. I'd say you're probably in the ballpark.

Buh bye profit sharing

Folks, this is not a normal IROP or even systems failure. $400 million is nothing. This event and the repercussions will likely cause us to lose money for third and fourth quarter.

Good point. I wonder how many customers will book away from Delta in the coming months. Thanks Ed!

I think the Schedulers/Trackers in the OCC probably need a Redbull or 4 during all of this. I can't imagine they are having the best time either.

I have first hand knowledge that the occ will respond on flight family confirming a new gameplan (uber). Verifying that both capt and FO are good to execute, give the green light that they will coordinate with tracking, snd then not 10 minutes later tracking sends a random deadhead reroute that left a trip uncovered and thus cnx. Even the occ can’t communicate expeditiously with tracking.

tough times, look after your crew, watch far violations cause they will still hang YOU the captain if something happens and you weren’t 100 percent legal
