Right now the options are:

Do nothing, get paid.

Or

Set your hair on fire trying to accomplish the simplest thing and still fail, then get paid.

I like option A.

The OCC is well aware of the hundreds/thousands of improperly crewed flights. How is me calling and harassing them to fix my flight going to help the situation?

Sometimes stepping away and waiting patiently is the best option.

You can no more fix what is ultimately a scheduling problem with a “gung ho” attitude than you can change out a blown out engine.

Relax. (But, you know. Keep your resume updated). Shine your shoes. Press your shirt. Pick up a greenslip if you feel like it. Pass out trading cards (limited edition currently available)

(I love this company. It breaks my heart when this stuff happens. One man might be able to make a difference in IROPS like this, but it’s not an ACARS typing line pilot)

What does it accomplish? The OCC is already aware if there’s an unassigned crew position on a flight. They have all of the data that they need in front of them. There simply aren’t enough people there to process it.

I’m not opposed to sending a message over Flight Family if you think there’s something unique to your situation that they’re unaware of. But more than likely, they’re just going to add it to the pile.

The part that amazes me the most, is how many pilots are out there trying to do everyone else's job so hard!! Just show up, do your job and go home! The company has clearly communicated that they have it under control, so just let them wallow in it. It was a mess the last 3 days on the international side (I'm sure much less so than domestic), but when you can just disconnect from the drama of worrying about solving management's problems (of which they have clearly decided are not a priority), it makes it much easier to handle.

I don't think its a situation where guys are saying screw it lets sit back and do nothing and be lazy. At some point you become realistic enough to know that leaving a 5th voicemail or sending yet another ACARS or starting another chat, is going to lead nowhere.

Delta now has 570 flights cancelled for today. Thats more than all the airlines in the world combined. It's 10 times United and American. Having been through more of these than I care to remember the result will be convening a cross divisional focus group to determine what went wrong. The results will be out in 6 months and no one will even remember the event at that point and the recommendations will be forgotten in a week.
In related news Delta just awarded Joe Biden and his immediate family positive space First Class travel for him and his family for life. A Delta spokesman said he has been the most effective PR spokesman Delta has ever had! Hunter Biden when approached for comment said, "Wow, great news, does Delta first class have horizontal mirrors in the lavs?"
