You can I’m just saying that it will be a lot more work than just sitting on reserve.

I was interested in applying as I’ve done this line of work before. As previously mentioned it takes a great deal of time to write the reports. When looking at the pay and how we would have to bid , I quickly decided it is not worth the hassle. They need to pay more. Pre bidding often makes schedules worse, not better. I don’t think it needs to be a totally good lopsided deal, but it has to be better than what is currently being offered.

Long time listener, first time caller. My wife does LOSA for AAL. They do LOSA year round and are either even month or odd month observers. They bid for a regular schedule using PBS and then drop 1 or 2 trips after the award and are paid / credited for the whole trip. There are often extra hours available where there can even drop a trip on their non scheduled LOSA month and do LOSA. Easy bidding / scheduling process and they are difficult jobs to get with lots of applicants. I feel DAL has lost out on a lot of qualified people by making the process difficult for bidding and only paying 5 hrs / day. This is not a good deal for a line pilot. The only pro to this deal at DAL is getting a foot in the door if you wanted to become more involved down the road with the safety department.

If you're going to do it, being on reserve is probably the smartest thing to do. 5:00/day pays more than a day of reserve, plus tactically placing LC days around it reduces your availability to the company. Place 2 LC days on the front and 3 days on the back of LOSA. Can't do much on the first block. You are not coming off a non fly day so you can't report before 1800 starting the second block. Plus I don't think LOSA would count as rest so you're in a 30/168 issue as well.
