It always amazed me the high percentage of crew members who refuse to wear seat belts in a crew van or bus. If you sadly ever have to assist in a serious van accident you will never not wear a seatbelt in a van again.

And both were very young too. Very sad. We are invincible...until we aren't.

One of the companies that does the shuttle service in many cities now has drivers make a seatbelt spiel and check everybody before moving, sometimes at least.

Very sad news. Condolences to the families. Most crew vans these days it's mandatory for buckle up before the driver moves the van. Now the Employee bus (at least in ATL) almost no one wears a seatbelt despite the crazy driving that occurs on Camp Creek and heck even on the Airport tarmac(IE the poor wingwalker that was hit by a speeding tug and violently tossed across the ramp. Thankfully survived but with serious injuries).

I didn’t see anything in the article about not wearing seatbelts. A taxi vs a semi truck is not going to end well no matter what.

Seatbelts help mitigate risk for sure, but transportation is still by far the most dangerous part of our jobs.

I took it as a PSA reminding people to always wear seatbelts.

If the crew van is involved in a crash and you are injured your case will be a LOT stronger if you were wearing your seatbelt.

Don't forget the added bonus of probably being alive to pursue the lawsuit if you'd worn a seatbelt while in transport to/from the airport.

Adults make decisions every day about risks they are willing to take. Is wearing a seatbelt a good thing to mitigate risk? Abslutely. Do we all know this? Absolutely. Do we all wear seatbelts when we are driving? Absolutely. Do we need to tell people over the internet how to act in a van provided by an employer? Apparently, absolutely.

While I assume most pilots wear seat belts in their own car, I’m always surprised how many don’t in crew vans. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to remind people it’s a good idea to treat vans like your personal car, because a lot of people don’t.
