Yep. My brother LOVED tax season until his kids aged out because hed get more back than he paid. Significantly more.

Meanwhile no kids (due to things not working due to military service, not by choice) and ka-ching-ka-ching in the outbound direction. Without being home and looking at a pay stub, I paid over $100k in taxes last year between fed, state and local. Add $20k for property and personal property tax.

Except it's not stealing and was made legal by your representatives to fund the government. You may not like it but that doesn't make it theft. This is an arguement about degrees. I think you would pay 1 dollar in federal taxes but you think the amount you pay now is excessive. There's a balance. We collectively as a society decide that balance through participation in a representative government. Nobody is stealing anything. Individuals are trying to gather all the information they can about thier individual circumstances and how that relates to taxes due. The problem with our system is that there is no number. You come up with a number and see if it's acceptable to the agency doing the counting.

When you take something from someone else, especially by force, that is the very definition of theft.

And in some ways one could say that not being able to retain the fruits of your labor is slavery.

Technically I'd say we're stealing from our kids and grandkids because for the last couple of decades we've been spending at least $1.45 for every $1 we collect and adding the difference to the national debt which NO ONE on both sides seems to give a darn about any longer.

Seriously, you think your income tax is going to road funding? You guys are funny.
How are the roads funded then? Or the police and fire departments?

No, we should go back to where if you were wealthy, only your house was taken care of if it was on fire.

It's almost like we left this libertarian fairytale behind because it didn't work and only benefited the rich.
