50 seems really high. My guess is closer to 20-30 on the initial AE.

Respectufully disagree (I'm taking a break from the grill grandkids are still running around a little longer than we planned so not ready to eat just yet). It's not a zero sum game when we open a base. Flying will be pulled from the other 330 bases to support the BOS trip originations. Except NY, I don't see any reductions happening there. Network wants more reliability out of BOS. It's a very strong and growing int'l market for us. Your turns thru BOS are going to dwindle down from other bases to support the BOS originations. Have a good 4th Scoop.

Not to mention the fact that any Boston commuters with the seniority to hold it are probably currently NYC based. I haven't seen anything indicating that these will be new positions or growth either.

Its interesting that they say 250 pilots
People have said this flying may come from nyc or dtw
DTW has been short staffed on the FO side for 3 years. No drops, no swaps, constant greenslips for 2 years - and hardly any AE slots.
A quick look at next summer for dtw subject to change -
AMS - 3 flights
FRA
MUC
CDG - 2 flights
LHR
FCO
HNL
so 10 daily departures scheduled as of right now and only 135-140 pilots
I think when they open this bos base it will be almost all 6 day trips with the exception of TLV or ATH - but maybe even those will route through NYC
I think if they are not going to grow any of the other bases BOS is why and you will see six days through ams, cdg, lhr, hnl, fco through dtw and nyc
Im really hoping to see some dtw, msp, 330b slots on this ae but if there are none, i think bos will be the reason

Exactly. It will be a slow, steady build up. WBA spots drive lots of other training, so a steady, smaller monthly stream makes more sense. And as you said the company definitely wants to limit seat locks on the initial few offerings. Their desired end state is ~250 pilots. They did not say how long it would take to get to that end state.

Advancement is caused by increasing block hours when you look at it on a system wide basis. It doesn't matter if the block hours go to a new or existing base. On a more local level it can drive specific bases to be more junior. In this case almost certainly NYC will see the benefit.
