yep. I’ve done DUB-BOS 2 pilots because it’s a PM departure from Dublin. They can probably get away with 2 pilots on afternoon departures from DUB/EDI/LIS/LHR and maybe AMS in the summer. Or any time departures from those places if they get the crew acclimated to Europe.

we will see once the base is established

W....W.... W....W

It's not just the 22nd letter of the alphabet, or a president's moniker....

It's also how scheduling can reduce credit times on trips by making them 6 days(as Sailing has already posted before)

I've seen 2 man out (tailwinds) 3 man back to ATL/SLC/DTW/MSP(headwinds, rote segment length) then...????

One would be foolish to assume they are locked into 3 day trips having to decide 2 man or 3 man crew

The congungiculator will find the least cost solution.

Credit surfers will hate them ....commuters will love them(6 days trips)

For those newish to Delta....they have previously built 13-14 day trips less than 10 years ago.

And, 9 day trips out of JFK(albeit to farther flung places like Mumbai)....they might not have route authority to do things like that now.... but your golden dreams may not align with the planner that controls the gold

Wow, I totally agree with Buck for once! The people expecting all easy 3 day trips are going to be disappointed.

Buck, you've been retired for awhile, that's not how it goes anymore, really. They haven't built 13 days in a long time and won't do that again for many factors. Mumbai was a different animal. The 6 days now are to repo Jets. Now we have a base at BOS, so the need to repo those jets is going to dry up - its an originating base now. I don't see the BOS bid pack being ALL 6 days, yes there will be a few, but mostly 3 days. We need the reliability of the orignating trip and that's proabably the largest reason we opened the BOS base starting with the 330. Having flown many 6 days it seems we end up falling out some where with a delay that only ripples. Delays back from the turn jet in Europe seem to throw the largest wrinkle. Those delays are casued by rippling delays on the front end before the jet even makes it to Europe. Can't tell you how many times I've gotten notified our report is delayed due to late inbound aricraft from the USA. Our int'l side needs more reliability, that's why BOS was opened and the 330 was the first aircraft to be assigned. It's network and marketings way of getting our reliability up. I could also add that a tangential reason was to begin to dump capacity on B6 out of BOS as well. That remains to be seen I guess. Anyway, we won't be seeing 13 day trips anymore (those are long gone). Mostly 3 days with some 6 interspersed. More 330s are arriving, so that's gonna help out even more.

I have as well when I was a 7ERA. Also, DUB LIS KEF etc... However we are not talking about that here on the 330. I don't see 2 person crews on anythign out of BOS other thn anything but LHR (that is until/unless the 330 takes over some of the DUB/LIS/EDI trips from the ER). CDG/AMS and other destinations in near Europe like that most likely won't be 2 person crews on the trips out of BOS. We don't want that anyway as it reduces our pilot requirements. As has been noted on this thread already, depending on dept times from Europe, a 2 person crew is only inviting the inevitable. We want reliablity to return to our int'l ops. Especially those flights from the NE to and fro. That was the impetus behind openening the BOS base with just the 330 (for now).

I was often delayed on return trips from Europe. Most were weather related or mechanicals in the US. Not sure how the BOS base helps with that. Delays on 6 day W patterns just resulted in short layovers. How much they can shorten a layover is almost criminal.

I'm guessing with the European penalties for delayed flights, it's cheaper to just staff a third crewmember rather than risk the fines.

I don’t think you’ll see these 6 day W patterns disappear.
