If you use ALPA leave to never fly when your seniority could never hold that, I have a problem with it. Yes.

Whoever keeps posting about DDM (I don’t care to go back and look) angling for some National position… I just checked. I think he’s in that position now and still serving as a C44 Rep. So good on him for serving both the pilots of C44 and the union at large. So what is he angling for? He’s got a National job. What’s your point?

I’m not an apologist for C44. The letter they just sent was arrogant and seemingly tone deaf. But I’m not really hearing a lot of reason for recall here. Same as my opinion in C81. They aren’t breaking any rules. None of them are getting rich doing ALPA work (quite the opposite I imagine). Company is rolling back their unilateral PB/PR day decision. 23M7 was supported by most in ALPA at that time (I wasn’t here, just what I’m gathering from reading here) and anyone interested in running for Rep also supported it I gather.

This is a 2nd career for me. So maybe I have a unique viewpoint on pilots that some don’t. But pilots in general are always concerned about someone somewhere getting something they don’t have. The perception is what is bothering everyone here from what I can tell… The perception that ALPA volunteers are making more than them because they’re getting 5:40 /day vs 5:15. The perception that ALPA Reps have some huge perks that they don’t have, even though comparing the PWA and the PM are apples/oranges. The perception that being an ALPA volunteer is better than being a line pilot… If it’s so good why aren’t so many of you clamoring to do it? Probably the same reasons I don’t want to do it.

Anyway, I’ll crawl back under my rock. Wouldn’t want StOnEcOlD to get too excited thinking I’m just here to throw my unwavering support behind some arrogant reps. If they need recalling then so be it. But it doesn’t seem (to me) that there is much to get excited about just yet.

Well if they’re on ALPA leave doing ALPA work… Isn’t that what they were elected to do? Or am I missing something here…

ODB2 and CRJPhlyer ... you raise some very good, serious questions regarding professional behavior for the C44 reps to defend. How much do line pilots expect their reps to fly? Is it written anywhere? Who pays the travel days? What rules are they breaking (reference, please)? How often do they no-show for lounge days, or only show up for a few hours ... or 1 hour? Where is reading newspapers during an MEC meeting disallowed?

I'll submit the former C81 F/O rep defended his conduct using similar answers and rhetorical questions. 64.4% of C81 voting members found his answers and conduct lacking.

So you start with “we raise serious questions”, but don’t answer any of them. Then you say the other guy defended with “answers and rhetorical questions”. I am missing the connection. My questions are NOT rhetorical if that’s what you are suggesting. I also provided reasons to keep the reps you did not address. If you are saying your mind is made up and don’t want to discuss it, fine. Others probably want to look at what’s really going on and weigh facts rather than allegations, my posts are directed at them.

He is a current C44 rep that was trying to influence the C81 recall.

And yes, I have a problem with that.

While I do see the benefit in flying the line, I’d guess they fly as much as practical given their ALPA duties? And I’d wager that they likely hear about more problems on a daily basis from pilots calling them and submitting DARTs than they do by going out and flying a trip.

So do you want your Reps to go fly or do you want them doing ALPA stuff? Why don’t you call your Reps and ask them why they don’t fly more?
