I recently caught an FO that I was flying with go fishing for side deals on reroutes. Less than 1 year on property. We had a talk about how that not only screws over your fellow pilots directly, but also collectively decreases our bargaining power with the company. Hopefully it was a case of not knowing what you don't know and it didn't just go into one ear and out the other.

Back on topic, this will be my first time voting in a recall. What are the next steps, timelines, and how does it work in practice for us line pilots in the council?

If you can make the meeting, you go to the meeting and you'll vote there. If you can't make the meeting, you need to find someone who is going who is like-minded and give them your proxy. This is done through the ALPA website.

This is roughly how it was done in the 19th century, amirite?

You mean the constitutional convention? Yes.

If you are certain to make the meeting, then contact the guy heading up the recall committee and advise him that you are willing to carry proxies. Each attendee can carry a maximum of 3 proxies.

I hope you call pro stans about that. A pilot trying to cut side deals and undermining the union needs to be talked to.

Another reason why the company thinks they can do what they want, because when it boils down to it, everyone is out for their own best interest.

I think the consensus last time was there isn't much they can do. If someone is doing that, I don't think they care much about what pro-stans says. If the union can't hit them in the pocket book, the least they should do is publish the names. A little public shaming can be useful and might change some behavior. Of course, given that we allow lawyers to run the world, I'm sure that could be turned around on the union.

I don't think public shaming is an effective technique these days. Especially someone who is clearly and purposefully circumventing the PWA at the expense of other pilots. Just my 2 cents.
