Is it true that Teslas go through tires much faster due to weight? Or is this an urban myth?

"Much"? Not in my experience. "Somewhat" is probably fair. Will undoubtedly depend on where & how you drive.

I'm at 38K on my 2020 Model S, and I've just started shopping for tires. I'm just above the wear indicators (slightly more tread "to go" to reach them). Previous vehicles, I'd generally see 40K-50K miles, usually more toward the latter end of that range, so I guess I'm a bit "early"--but nothing I consider concerning.

One thing that may be weight-related, or may just be bad luck on my part: I've had two separate tire punctures. Would I have taken that nail with a lighter vehicle? I have no way of knowing. Fortunately, both cases were patchable....

Depends on how you drive it - if you drive it like you're 25 and have a car that does 0-60 in 3.1 seconds (base model 3) and stomp on the accelerator every time you have some open road.. yeah, you're gonna burn through tires, I've seen posts in the FB group about that. But...

I'm not 25 and drive normally.. I do hit the accel on occasion, but not oftehn. I'm at 62,000 miles on mine (5 years old) and about halfway though my second set of tires. So about 40k per set.

Base model time is 5.8 seconds. Performance model is 3.1, just sayin.

Sorry, that's right, I was looking at the wrong page. It's still damn fast! And it's all torque the instant you hit the pedal - no waiting for anything to spool up.

I have a Y Performance. I do love dispensing education around Atlanta to some pretty dull minded pickup drivers. I drove a Model S one time. That is one hell of a ride. I do not need that. I would have a hard time behaving.

They are a lot of fun beyond the acceleration though. And I love getting updates on the car to see what new things it does. And safety wise it's pretty awesome. Whoever said having one for your kid, I would have scoffed, but seriously considering a 3. I drove trucks and F150s for three decades. I'll probably never go back to trucks.

There is some truth to this however it's not a real issue with the Y and 3. It is however a big issue with the model X. You can raise and lower the suspension height on the X. The car suspension adjusts up and down. The low position wears the tires but the car tries to keep the suspension in low to protect the half shafts from wear. Tesla sets the camber at the medium height which increases wear in the low position. There are kits to fix the camber issue but they are aftermarket. 15,000 is considered the norm for rear tires on the X. I considered long and hard buying a X this fall but this issue along with the half shafts kept me in my Y. The 3 and Y are not actually that heavy. My Y is several hundred pounds lighter than my BMW X5 and they have similar space.
The X at 79,900 minus the 7500 tax credit was however a bargin for every thing you get. Just didn't quite make sense to trade in a 3 year old Y the wife loves.

Default Toyota

Has anyone found any company discounts or have any experience in purchasing a new Toyota? Can't seem to find anything on company site in the realm of discounts similar to ford or GM and only a link to TrueCar.
