Yes, that is a correct statement, although "inappropriate" isn't really the right term. I'd phrase it more as a "necessary part of breastfeeding your children"...

Wouldn't the solution be to breastfeed on the ground and take a delay as needed for this essential bodily function? I don't know about breastfeeding so I'm assuming it couldn't be done at the hotel. It seems weird, but that isn't the issue here. It's the deranged response(if true) from her coworkers. Like the response to someone clipping toenails isn't to caress their feet or showing up at their hotel room at night and asking for a nibble.

If I needed to insert a catheter (in order to perform a basic and essential bodily function) and somebody walked into the cockpit on me with my phallus exposed doing this, it would be inappropriate. If a fellow crewmember, especially of the opposite sex, complained, they would be justified. If I became known for doing this, exposing a private part in public at work, I would probably expect to be made fun of for it.

(and before you say that I should do this in the lav, there's poop on the walls, and I wouldn't want to risk a UTI, which is a far more reasonable excuse than "the lav is gross")

Pumping isn't inappropriate. I see moms feeding their babies literally every day in the airport. You have to pump milk at the same time every day in order to maintain your supply. If you don't, you risk being able to feed your baby. And worse, it's literally physically painful if you go beyond the normal interval. It's not hard to be mature or respectful of your coworker. Turn your head a little to the left and don't oggle.

If you had a medical need to insert a cath, you wouldn't be flying an airplane. Besides, waste removal and milk production aren't even in the same category.

If you spilled hot coffee on your pants and needed to remove them to prevent scalding, you could say, "hey, I need to remove my pants for a minute," would you mind looking away, that's a completely appropriate request

Yes it is not the issue in the lawsuit but many on here seem to have an issue with it. I'm sure women who are breast feeding do everything they can to work pumping into their work schedule on the ground, but we all know how things can melt down with weather, or get an unexpected RR, mx delay, etc. Sometimes things just don't go as planned and most women I know who pumped did so on a pretty regular schedule or things start to get uncomfortable pretty quickly, not to mention if there are any issues with mastitis.

the part you failed at is “inappropriate.”

expressing milk isn’t. Whether to a live baby or not.

My wife needed to pump every 3-4 hours all day long. If she went more than 30 minutes outside that window, it was excruciating. Literally had to pump in a parking garage before driving home from a date it was so bad. Our maternity policy here is archaic and forces women back into the flight deck of they are the main income earner way too soon. It's medically advantageous to feed your baby breast milk if you can.

They are literally essential bodily functions. There's nothing wrong, immoral, or shameful about relieving yourself. But it is unprofessional to expose the private parts, which are also sexual organs, in public while on the job.

Removing your pants isn't going to stop you from getting burned. Lol
