That's dumb. Why would scheduling do that? To stick it to the pilot group? They certainly take liberties with the contract but that's because their job is to ensure flights are covered. Waiting hours or days to run coverage makes their job significantly harder. Why would you suggest that's even a possibility?

Any trip in open time with less than 8 hours to sign in can be covered this way. Stick it to our group, they could care less about the pilot making double pay for the trip. Using both GS and IA coverage inside of 8 hours makes covering the trip that much easier. We will see how’s things unfold, will be interesting to watch.

Councils that contribute more to the OOBWS problem complaining about more senior bases having to concede to fix the problems created by the OOBWS step of trip coverage. ...
Ref. Crew Resources Update for April 23 which specifically calls out the OOBWS coverage issue and drivers of 23 M. 7. use.

The company's blatant overuse of 23.M.7 is a problem. I have long contended that the prior ARCOS batch size limits were far too restrictive (how did the company ever even agree to them in the first place?) and all the associated issues did indeed need to be addressed--for a price. We had some leverage there, and I don't think that we the union really got a whole lot out of this. This is not about mindlessly adhering to the status quo when it was clearly broken. I just think that we could have given the company the relief that we did, but securing more and better contractual improvements as part of that process.

The ‘just say no’ councils got outvoted and now they’re waving their arms and stomping their feet, foaming at the mouth trying to prove to the membership that they’re really earning that FPL.
