Now THAT's funny, I don't care who you are!

Buddy, not buddy.

Does anyone non-rev with cycling gear? I'm looking at the Thule Round Trip Transition hard side bike case, but it weighs 39 lbs empty. My bike is light, but not 11 lbs light to stay under the 50 lbs limit for luggage. If it all weighs in at over 50 lbs what happens? I've never non-rev'd or jumpseated with checked luggage. Do they charge non-revs to check a bag?

$100 since it's over 50 lbs.

In practice I’ve had them let it go through if you’re “close”. Specifically have had this courtesy extended most of the time with skis - large bag with 2 sets, boots, gear, etc.

No guarantee you won’t run up against a stickler, but I’ve had good luck with it. A smile goes a long way.

Close means 51-55lbs, not 70. Make it easy for them to look the other way.

Worst case you have to spend a couple bucks.

I've never had them let it slide, and I've traveled many times with bikes and skis. Bottom line is anyone doing this should plan on $100 each way and then be pleasantly surprised if you get someone who's willing to look the other way.

Oh and another thing, Delta will not give a **** if they destroy your equipment. Killed a $1000 pair of skis and gave me nothing except the middle finger. So, travel with your expensive gear at your own risk.

I’ve never had them break anything but according to the HR page on non rev benefits they will pay for lost or damaged items same as they will for a regular passenger. No compensation for temporary lost bagge or delivery for delayed bags though.

You can also use Delta cargo to send stuff. I used it for golf clubs once that I didn’t want to drag around. Even had them delivered to my house. I believe we got a 90% discount.

I’ve had luggage lost and luggage broken as a non rev. The above is correct they will replace items, but Delta will not deliver them.

Some partner airlines do a much better job with that. On one of my HKG trips I was using a ZED from NRT to HKG and I had a checked bag. It got left behind in NRT. The Asian airline delivered it to my hotel in HKG that night.

At United it’s YOUR parents (not your spouse/sig other). If your parents die you can’t label/designate in-laws as your parents. Wish this were the case but not currently allowed.

Same at Delta???

I thought about this too. How long does it take Delta cargo to go from west coast to east coast? I also thought about using the FedEx discount. My bike+case will probably be about 58-60lbs.
