Seriously, if my grand parents were still alive, I'd buy them a ticket because sitting around an airport gate all day long only to schlep to a hotel late at night because you never got on a flight during your connection is going to cause an early termination.

I don't non-rev internationally unless it's D1..... if you use that benefit when available, it's a lucrative benefit. Not gonna work well for the next few months or so though.

I did use a buddy pass on an intl trip one time and it worked out. When we arrived though, we were all rested and they were tired with a dash of suicidal. That’s the difference between D1 and economy on an intl flight!

Older people have a hard time processing non rev and more importantly they may not be standing within earshot when the gate agent yells “smith party of 1… ok moving on—brown party of 1.”
