Default Hiring E-mail Confusion

A good friend of mine received the assessment e-mail in May. He took the assessment and received a congratulations email, replied to it and picked some dates for training, and received the confirmation of receipt with a note to hear back in a few days with his interview date. He didn’t hear back, so a few days later he called in to inquire. They said they weren’t sure what was going on, and they’d get back to him - 20 minutes later, he got an email saying that they had sent the congratulations email in error and to reapply in 90 days.

Has anyone had this happen to them, and if so, how did it turn out? I feel like this is extremely unprofessional of Delta to do, and it’s put a bad taste in his mouth which is really unfortunate.

Thanks for any advice!

So he took the online assessment and received a email asking him to pick dates for training, and that didn’t strike him as odd?

I believe that only happens for “tippy-top tier” candidates.

Cool story, bro. Especially for a first post.

Can you tell us about "your friend's" bad taste? Is it metallic? Or just bitter?

Every airline has snafus like that from time to time. You just gotta roll with it.

Sorry it didn't work out. You probably didn't want to work for such an "unprofessional" company anyhow.

Sorry, meant pick dates for an interview in Atlanta, but thanks for all your help! Glad we can all have each others’ backs.

Details matter, and I do believe it is mostly just busting your chops.

But to address your concerns, goofs happen. If you think coming to Delta you’ll be at an operation that never fouls something up terribly, it’s just an airline man. Do we do awesome most of the time, I’d say yes. The better forum for your inquiries would be the Delta pilot recruitment page on Facebook to get a much more recent feedback loop. The majority of profiles here haven’t been through the process in the recent years.

All is not lost, keep plugging away, go to the GPA thread for inspiration on frustrations turning to success. But if one incident has turned anyone’s opinion of a 30+ year employer please don’t come here and complain for 30+ years.
