BOS Base commute
I received a CJO from both AA and DL. Currently live in Boston and not intending to move.
I’m debating because there is a good chance that Boston base at AA will close at a certain point (200 pilots in a company that employs 15,000 pilots) and Delta hinting they will open a base at BOS (they already hold half the airport with their own terminal).
Either way, I will make a bet here. My question is if I choose DL, how frequently will I see BOS during my trips, and if I can easily build my schedule around it or does it require “engineering” with drops and trades that have a slight chance to go through?

I’m also curious about this, live in BOS and currently at JB and just recently received a CJO with a DL. Asked about BOS at interview and was told many times it’s been a rumor for a long long time and may hear something regarding it after this apparent June AE.
seems like most fleet types pass through BOS but would like to know which fleet has most layovers or ability to start a trip in BOS with a self dhd.
thanks!

Hopefully the base will happen later this year, but until pilots are signing in at terminal A it’s just wishful thinking. BOS certainly warrants a base on the 330/320/220, but getting the decision makers in ATL to give it the go-ahead is another story.
AA supposedly wants to open a 320 base in BOS, but like DAL, believe it when it happens. I doubt the 737 base is going anywhere.

We fly a ton of 319/320/321 in and out of Boston. I get a lot of flying through BOS but not that many layovers but they are out there on the 320 fleet. I don’t know the split with other aircraft though. We do some 330 mid rotation layovers there but a much smaller number of aircraft. Those layovers are about 24 hours though.
220 flying is mostly like 717 flying, with plenty of 11-12+ hour duty days and generally shorter layovers.

Last time I looked, I think the 320 only had 10-12 rotations that start with a DH to BOS.
Descent amount of layovers, but they are short....short enough that it's probably worth it to go home if you live around BOS, but making the drive up to NH or Maine, probably not worth it.

I do see some international long haul flights from BOS (Like TLV, AMS, DUB and more). How does it work? Do delta fly the crew DH to BOS? Because I don’t see how a crew will fly ATL-BOS-AMS-BOS-ATL on a single trip

Ah, but they do. There are many of what we call "W trips" in all the international bases. 6 day trips where you make a W on the map. JFK-LHR-BOS-DUB-JFK or ATL-CDG-SLC-AMS-ATL would be great examples.

They will do that on occasion. More often they will build "W" shaped 6 day trips with 4 ocean crossings. ATL-AMS-BOS-AMS-ATL.

On the 330 out of NYC it seemed all I did was layover or deadhead to and from BOS. Most of the Boston commuters I know did not want a 330 base in BOS. They did much better picking up the broken up W trips or bidding trips with deadheads or layovers. 21 hours beats 15:45 for the same 3 days worked. I picked the broken up trips for the same reason and getting the positive space commute pre covid. Our reserve system unlike UAL’s forces those 6 day trips to be broken into two 4 days. Deviate the DH and work 12 days for 84 hours. With the addition of broken TLV trips you could get days worked into single digits.
