People forget that the 2011 topped out 747-400 rate (the -200 paid less) was $184 an hour. The DC-9 paid something like $65 when ASA paid $119. Hard to take a job when you know around a thousand pilots senior to you are on furlough bypass and can recall ahead of your seniority.

It is impossible to know career progression. This is no comment on the quality of NWA pilots, many of whom are excellent.

I wasn’t disparaging anyone, it was just a response about where we could end up (again)

So pardon my naivety, should a 1500 hour CFI apply? I get that the preferred requirements vs actually being competitve are much different.

If you would take the job, yes. Apply and the chances of you being called are not zero.

If you would not take the job, then no do not apply. They will not call you.

Yes, you absolutely should apply. And update your application at least monthly.

Do you have an ATP written? If yes, apply.

No ATP written, but I'd be willing to pay for it if that meant I was incrementally more competitive. Would that be recommended?

It’s not about being competitive, that is required item.

delta has many pilots to choose from at the regional level and at lcc who have turbine time and 121 time as well as having an atp and proven they can succeed in a 121 training.

your chances aren’t 0 but don’t go an pay for ctp and the written thinking you have a good chance of getting on at delta out of the gate. Plenty of companies still pay for it when you’re onboarding.

Go to a regional and get through training. You'll get paid for getting not just your written, but full ATP, a part 121 training event for your app and a jet type rating. It will make you more competitive without even having to step foot in the cockpit of an RJ.
