And how many of those apps are qualified? How many do we want? How many don’t get hired somewhere else first? I bet maximum we on board 1000 of those. So what like 5 months in the pipeline?

If I were king for a day at Delta, I’d be preparing to offer employment to any active pilot already flying or with a job offer at a US major. Do it soon while our contract is exponentially better than the competition. All’s fair in love and hiring!

As for active applications from candidates that met the 1,000 hours of turbine, I’ll be that was less than a few hundred. Hence why they widened the aperture. They’ll burn through applicants this summer before we truly see if we get to the 1,500 hour CFIs etc.
Anyone at a regional or LCC has had the opportunity to jump ship if they wanted to. The 3 legacies alone will have hired around 15,000 pilots since 2021 by the time we reach the end of 2023. Anyone left at a regional is either feeling stuck because of having to repay a large bonus if they leave or simply isn’t interested.

We’ve sent plenty of people packing with scores too low to offer employment or do-overs. Perhaps some of those folks get a call back?

Do like American does: use the data to anticipate who might need extra sim training. The days of using the assessment as a pre-interview filter are coming to an end for Delta.

I failed the assessment the first time I took it. So I did more targeted practice and passed the second time. The AON assessment is dumb for pilots who have demonstrated thousands of hours and years of safe, professional flying ability. It's an unnecessary hurdle. If they want to ensure that they don't hire a pilot who will Germanwings one of their jets, keep the psych eval at interview day.

I’m curious, does anyone know why airlines have gotten away from sim interviews?
