I'm torn on what to do. Amazingly, pay is a little higher at my regional and I currently have a 1-leg commute. ABX on the other hand doesn't have a captain shortage yet would be a 2 leg commute.

Long story short, what's more valuable: staying to slam out as many Embraer SIC hours as possible (and maybe even upgrade) or jump back in the classroom to get a 767 type but have considerably fewer hours?
If you are young and single I’d do whatever seems like more fun to you. For me it would have been globetrotting in a 767. Honestly you will probably get the delta call in about the same amount of time either way but you never get to live your 20s a second time. Enjoy the journey, my friend!

you could be “cranking out hours” for several years before even having enough to qualify for captain depending which regional you’re at. Don’t chase qol at this point. Chase hours. If going through another 3 month training program and not flying for 3 months will result in you getting hours faster go for that. But just about every lcc right now is also hiring anyone with a wet atp. If you have another airline closer to you maybe try them.

Delta is metering their regional feed Captains and the other legacies are doing likewise with their regional feed captains. Since everyone is doing it, the net effect is the same, and they may as well all discontinue the practice. Its like a trade war between two countries imposing tariffs on each other. Nobody wins

Don’t hold your breath that will change.

Get out while you can . Take the 767 . Regionals stink. Always have, always will until they dissolve them forever hopefully.

Do you think this will still be the case early next year? Like March/April 2024?

LOL this will be the very rare exception.

Back before an ATP was required, airlines would sometimes hire 300 hour wonders with a commercial and no relevant experience in the 80's and 90's. Even then it was extremely rare and limited to very specific applicants they indivisually wanted to hire anyway. Almost no one truly "off the street" had a chance until they had 10X that much time (5X for fighter pilots).

Cue someone mentioning some of the ab initio hires from the 50's and 60's.

I wouldn't get my hopes up, but you definitely will not get hired unless you have an app in. If they lower the minimums even further, you want your app to be in the first batch 'newly' reviewed. Good Luck.
