For some people… Finding the right fit is important regardless of where on whatever spectrum a person falls on. Some companies are more progressive than others. For many it doesn’t really matter, but there are a certain % where it does and they chose accordingly.
Biggest complainers about DEI stuff are those who watched things change around them for the last 20+ years and act like it’s something new.

I always hear about guys saying to live in base and pick the airline based on drivability, but maybe that’s not always the best advice. There’s more factors to consider than just proximity to base.

Speaks to cautious lawyers on employer mandates for the grunts.
Credit where credit is due; Mr. B threaded the needle on this one. (But, you know fix the g-darned optimizer).

Delta is very military friendly, with the new contract you can now do military duty on layovers and while on Reserve. I’m not sure I’d suggest flying mil during those periods, but you could do admin stuff, OPRs, sit SOF etc.
contract language:
“Unless it makes the pilot unavailable for Company duty or violates USERRA, a pilot is not restricted from performing military duty while on a layover; while on a day of reserve; before, after or during a rotation; while on a day with an SLI duty period; while in training; or while on any other Company business.”

Yeah I’m glad I asked this question, because I honestly thought I would get more pro United on both forums due to MCO and ORD. But I think Delta’s reserve rules and contract outweighs a shorter commute. Definitely reminds me of how good Delta is then. I was already leaning Delta before hand, but this might have solidified it to me.

United is a great job for guys who want to go fly 90hr lines with little disruptions to their planned layover assignments. A lot of them are so comfortable in their little bubble that they don’t really understand how bad UALs reserve rules are compared to DALs or don’t really care because, in their mind, it doesn’t affect them. UAL Hogan screens for folks who like to fly a lot, and some prep companies warn that if you don’t enjoy flying a lot that you won’t really mesh with UAL.

You're only 28 and want to stay in the military? What, to put in 20+ years for the gov't pension at 60? I was in that boat, flying the C17 in Charleston and flying for Delta. I enjoyed my military career but it was one job too many. I left my USAFR job moved to ATL and never looked back. I'm nearing retirement age now and in hindsight it was the best decision for me. My 2⍧. Good luck.

Obviously 20% is somewhat arbitrary, but seems to hold up fairly well historically.
