Can you explain what’s going on to a dumb pilot? Is this going to happen in perpetuity? It’s kind of scary tbh. I can hardly function after a red eye, being asked to deadhead and be on the hook if **** gets sideways just seems dumb for folks that can’t stay up all night. Maybe if duty after a red eye was first class window so one can sleep that would be palatable, but can you imagine being stuck in 36b for a 4:30 flight back to the west coast? **** balls

Rotations are bad everywhere, but hey at least staffing is even worse. The fallacy of other bases having it better is ridiculous.
The one advantage west coast bases have is stage length is longer due to distances between airports out west.

So now I'm DH on the redeye I was supposed to operate. How is this going to mitigate fatigue? I'm still up all night and now I get the pleasure of a middle seat in basic economy. The following day will still be an attempt at day sleep in a hotel with the associated elevator use, hallway traffic, sunlight, big city horn honking, and vacuuming maid disruption.
