LAX 320 has seen as much as 74% red-eye starts. 73 not quite as bad but usually 30%+. Both usually operate one if not two legs following a day sleep. BTW, that sleep frequently follows a long van ride around sunrise, ie Fort Lauderdale to Miami.
I don't think any NB base has had cushy rotations since at least early 2019 and I don't blame any base for trying to improve their lot.

having <$100 in total utilities bills is just a bonus that offsets a bunch of the difference

Same in DTW. Had one of these gems on my line at the end of a 4 day. The red eye was changed to a DH with a note in icrew about FRMT Sec. 4E (whatever that means). Now the red eye leg is sitting in open time as part of a 2 day built as DH, 12 hour dayover then operate the red eye back (along with pretty much all the DEN and LAS red eyes)
To me it seems like someone finally realized that building trips like this was a bad idea and it's a sloppy attempt to fix it.

Yes, sorry. Could have elaborated and made better description. For some reason my phone no longer uses the mobile version.
