I've been here 6 years and am 80% NB-A in my base... I'd be 99% as a WB-B. So for me narrowbody captain makes more sense I think.

Pay per day = Rate x Daily Hours
Pay per month - Rate x Monthly Hours
Annual Pay = Rate x (Annual Hours + Vacation and Sick Time)
-Using the first metric WB FO daily average hours overcomes the higher NB A rate up to and including 7ER A. For commuters considering lost nights at home, the gap is even wider. The theory is you can always WS/GS/swap for more time. This was not possible in 2020, but now GS are flowing like never before in WB categories. Pre covid, it was almost always possible to WS or swap into a higher time trip. Some WB B, would bid a low time trip specifically for the purpose of swapping above the WS pickup limit. Don't hate the player...
-The second metric has a range based on how much extra work an individual is willing to do and the availability of open time. The WB FO starts the month with less $$ but fewer work days. WB tends to have more credit, so you can get over 100 of straight pay without hitting FARs. I would routinely credit 110 per month on the 777 while blocking 90 in 14 days, then drop down to 55/45 the following month. WB GS on average is worth double a NB GS based on trip length. You also have a much better chance of making it as a commuter. Look at the gap between award and report on WB GS coverage and NB GS coverage, 14 hours notice for a 29 hour SYD is much better than 3 hours notice for a 10:30 2 day. Toss in the occasional 10-15 hour PB day and WB is amazing. Externalities drive the final outcome in this equation.
-When you look at annual compensation, you have to consider the additional value of the higher rate. Vacation hours X pay rate favors NB A. There is no way around the math. This is also the case for sick leave. 100 hours of vacation and sick leave pays more on NB A. This is ignored in the pay/day and pay/month scenarios.
At the end of the day, pay is in the eye of the bidder.

That’s not what I see. 2nd year Capt on 717 will be $278. 2nd year FO on 350/330/764 will be $206. I don’t see essentially the same. Even if you are talking with green slips - I don’t see them as the same at all.

It’s a pretty simple concept overall - upgrade get you more money but on average it’s going to take more work to earn it. I’m in a similar boat as a senior NB-B. I don’t have to work very much, and landing a GS a month boosts my pay, but last year I still made less than a CA on my plane averaging 72 hours a month. Throw in vacation, sick, and 1 or 2 GS and the pay disparity really shoots up. But I only worked about a little over 100 days last year where as a CA I’d be doing roughly 168 (14 days/month x 12). So again, pay raise for the left seat but a work increase too.

There is and has been a very good reason why top 30% WB B is very senior. Most likely those cats are waiting to move to the left in their category and most are ninjas making more $$ for less work than they would in NB A. I remember on 777 top 10 FOs would make more than the captains they flew with routinely.
Makes sense for Junior guys to take the NB A because junior NB B is the same kind of flying. Junior WB B will net better QOL and time at home but less $$ than NB A.

I'm top 40% NYC73NA. Fantastic QOL although dropping all trips requires some iCrew finessing. Can't hold 40% percent in WB B anything except for 7ERB which really don't count.
