For the first 1.5 years on the 717, the only night flying I did was the early am takeoffs. One of the many reasons I stay on it is the lack of ridiculous reroutes and lack of redeyes/late night flying. I'll take AM flying over redeyes every time!
I’m the opposite. Give me a red eye over an early morning go anytime,

For me, 2 legs/day at 6-7 hours of block is still easier than 4 legs/day at 3-4 hours block with 3 plane changes.

You gotta be kidding me. There's a huge difference between touching down in Cabo after one easy leg from iconic JFK and heading to JW vs touching down in ATW, GRB, FAY etc and heading to some hotel, motel, Holiday Inn to get some rest before your 4am wake up call where you meet all drooped up flaps, have to open a panel to check potable water when it's 10F outside(CRK Vibes), and then clear your bags out the way while you're getting deiced in a 1950s submarine cockpit with fancy screens. Oh and in 1 hr you get to do it all again

Exactly. I'd do a redeye any day over the early wake up followed by 3-4 legs over 11-12 hrs of duty that's common on the Dream niner. With that said I did enjoy my time on 717. Flying pure, FD off visual approaches into small airports reminds oneself of GA flying. Some of the college towns like TLH and GNV can be really fun right time of the year. AVL is a challenging but fun approach that's drop dead gorgeous in Spring and Fall. Layover is fantastic as well. Also if you're senior and don't want to work hard you can do nothing but one leg out and back 2 days all month.

The 737 eagerly enters the chat.

Seriously though, one of the best things here is having options. Different types of flying & aircraft types. Upgrade early or build seniority in the right seat. Something for everyone.

717 comes back to LAX, I’m back on it in a heartbeat. Best flying club in the airline. Short legs, great weather, good west coast flying. No red eyes. Lots of operational churn so the thunder rolled loud and frequently if you wanted it. Made more $$$ than my ER buddies and worked far less days to do it. Easy airplane to fly.

Holy mic drop, Trip! Outstanding rant and I agree 100%. The only thing you forgot was having to start the APU to wash your hands or make coffee.

I was counting the days for my freeze to expire on that thing.

Flying the line these last few days it seems like all the upgrade are going to go super senior.

Many of the senior FOs I have flown with are taking the upgrade.

Anybody heard anything different?

The 717 also keeps your flying skills "sharper" with your guaranteed 1-2 daily legs. On the WB, better hope you do a nice TO and landing, otherwise it'll be a while before you get a chance to make amends.
