I feel like wbb right around the 2-3 year mark of doing it is where most either upgrade or decide I’m in this for good. The creature comforts or wbb are hard to give up
nice bus rides in comfortable vans
crew meals
great places to walk around
good pay
traditionally more time at home but not as much lately
but there are some very tough nights when you can’t sleep well, and it takes a long time to recover when you come home and it’s not typically the healthiest thing you can do to your body long term

If we have some outstation bases open up, I’m sure a lot will jump at the opportunity for NBA and home basing. Don’t think that’s a realistic possibility but you never know!

just to add a data point. 4 years 320 FO (UNA stint) 4 months ER FO, bid early ER captain. If I could stay here for 30 more years I would. Awesome flying, great crews, great plane, great layovers, extra pay is nice. Job is way less stressful after upgrade. Set the pace, slow things down, etc. 320/737 maybe a different animal with the different ops tempo.

disclaimers are I have always bid reserve, don’t mind working weekends and live an hour and twenty minutes from Kennedy. Ymmv.

I bet for most people that’s plenty and it’s an easier lifestyle. Just my guess tho!
Add in the 401k DC multiplier, and by DOS+3 there might be a ~69k/year difference between the two positions, all else being equal (which of course, it never is). Do that extra work for the duration of one seat lock and after taxes you might just have college funded for one kid without making any other budget adjustments. If they’re staying in-state public and have some scholarship money, maybe you just funded two kids. Bid back to WBB if it’s miserable.

Everyone’s motivated by different things at different stages of life. Something tells me a lot of people will indeed make the jump to NBA. Doesn’t hurt to stock away some savings in advance of a global recession every once in a while…

I could see WB B pulling the trigger on NB A if the work rules are much better on this TA. However for someone living in base and sitting 30% or better I don't see those cats giving up their gig until the take the left seat WB

On the contrary. It’s the LAX pilots who are squealing the loudest about “stolen flying”. Take a look at their council updates. They apparently think they deserve their fair share of Europe (while demanding all the Hawaii flying, no less).

All LAX has asked for is some transoceanic flying that leaves from non 7ER base locations like MSP, DTW, BOS etc. No one owns the flying and nothing in life is fair, but it is just fine to advocate for the allocation of a few scraps.

With no direct EU flying, why would the company spend the time and money to keep the LA pilots TQ for the Atlantic?

If no one "owns" the flying, then why shouldn't the LA pilots relax on their HI flying stranglehold? Sounds like a toddler's response "MINE".
