I would be willing to guess that 5% is because people can now bid to a seat without having to put their life on hold for 9-12 months. As they now get to that seat, I bet it settles back towards normal.

it May also be caused by the ability of a pilot to convert ‘faster’ between multiple different bids. I imagine the pilot who doesn’t mind training and wishes to sample life in a few different fleets. he ‘churns’ faster through 3 AE awards than he used to.

An obvious advantage to quarterly or semiannual bids was that it kept pilots in seats longer. What would be interesting to learn is whether there’s an actual cost savings with the monthly bids. No that we care too much about that metric but someone does.

FWIW, I think what BS was really saying was the volume of training driven by monthly vs. fewer AE's.

Yes, but if your seat lock expired one month too late for an AE and it was 8 months until the next one and your conversion was 362 days after award, was your seat lock the same length?

That’s just about a worse case example, but the new system (as long as they keep doing it) would allow quicker returns to Virginia Avenue.

Well considering we are only a few months into this monthly AE experiment, I’m betting that has nothing to do with the extra training churn.

It would also be nice to get more of a definitive date when bidding, not just a 5-6 month conversion window.

While I agree, it’s way better than it used to be.

With monthly bids, they really only do a month of training at a time - so you pretty much know the month of when you will go to training, despite the official conversion window. The new contractual change of “first half/second half” will only move your training by a couple weeks in the current system. That’s almost useless, unlike how AE’s worked when that was negotiated.

That said, if they ever go back to quarterly or longer periods between bids, we may be glad we have that provision.
