I appreciate it! I’m looking forward to it. I think the folks who are negative about it either haven’t tried it or they did and didn’t do their research before hand.
I flew with this guy once, he was a NB CA, who said basically “don’t go to the 350, did you know they have trips longer than 5 days?” I started laughing because I thought he was kidding but unfortunately there are people like that who bid without doing a minute of research and they end up hating it.
I flew with another guy who told me not to go international because they only do 12 day trips. We haven’t done a 12 day since the 747 I believe haha. I figured I’d try it for myself and go from there.

Oh, I’ll always stand by the fact that first break going over sucks.

Forget all the naysayers. You'll learn how to manage your rest and have an amazing time. And if you don't you can always bid off it and at least say you tried. I've been on the 330 for nearly 2 years and have loved every minute of it. Even the occasional long bus ride is no big deal...just close your eyes for a little power nap. And first break going over isn't that big of a deal to me either. You'll figure out what works for you and adjust. I can tell by your enthusiasm that you are going to have a blast. There is a reason it's so senior.
It's not so much managing your rest as it is learning to live with fatigue and a lack of good sleep on the road. I wouldn't call it being a naysayer when you're calling out the very real things about it all, especially if you've experienced it. I "learned" how to manage my fatigue/lack of sleep, and generally I can sleep at the drop of a hat. But the short nap on the plane or bus, the 3-4 hours and forcing yourself up and the 0200 wakeup is terrible rest...calling it that, isn't being a naysayer, it's calling it what it is. But you point from another post is spot on, you should go try it out and I'd say for a minimum of year before you make the call.

”learning how to nap easily” is just WB code for losing an entire sleep cycle every crossing and being perpetually exhausted.

Never had the problem. What I did have problems with were the "west coast redeyes" where you arrived at 0330 on your body clock, got 10 hours, then flew 4 legs next day. BTW those things are nothing new. I find myself much more relaxed and rested then when I was NB (that was sometime ago, maybe things have changed a little) probably because of the overall tempo of the WB trip. Each person is different though. Do what best suits - you

I don’t think you are crazy for disliking it. I’m gonna be tired either way. Whether I fly out ****ty domestic rotations and short layovers or redeyes to day layovers or I go across the globe to long layovers and have my time all ****ed up. But I can definitely see why people don’t like it. All I can say is give it a chance before you upgrade. See what you think. If after a few months it’s horrible, upgrade or wait it out and go back domestic B.

almost as if it’s a personal choice you shouldn’t really be impugning.

Kinda sounds like you’ve made a personal line in the sand about WB and NB guys. We are all coworkers here. Bid what you want. Who cares what other people are doing??? We are adults, not in high school

there’s no line. I wish everyone to enjoy themselves. I’m simply pushing back against HK’s contention that 2000-8000 seniority pilots would do “so much better” on a WB and how they cannot understand people making a different decision.
