So if you’re in FO seat going out, you will relief going back…giving you first break on return.

The seniority thing is just something I use with the other FO’s. Approach it as a hey your senior so I was gonna give you the option. Or if I’m senior say hey I was gonna be PF/PM going out and then relief coming back if you’re good with that? Not just dictating what I’m going to do. My fleet doesn’t run into landing issues, that will be something new for you.

B lines you may have a trip where each leg is a new set of 2 different pilots and you’re the 3rd guy. Sometimes people think this is a relief pilot trip, but it’s not technically. When I’ve flown those I just try to be best help for the guys/gals I can be but usually on those I can end up being a relief every single leg. Hope that gives you some insight. You’ll learn your stuff quickly and see what quirks or techniques work for you.
Great info. Thanks a lot! I’ll let ya know how it goes. December training for now it looks like

When does a new WB pilot get the pleasure of bedbugs in Paris?

3am eastern? Along with all the NB A/Bs that avoid international because of the WOCL flying?

Unbeknownst to them they probably already got them in Atlanta during training.

Point is you’ll wake up at random times over there. Times that fit your body but not your schedule.

And first break coming back being the best depends on how you slept the night before. Can be good or a curse.

OTOH, first break going over almost always sucks.

Remember this quote on your 2hr bus ride in Paris after you didn’t sleep all night since you had 1st break goin over. Or the 2-4hr ride in Lagos when it’s storm season.

As for the bunk…..get yourself a cheap camping blow up mattress from Amazon. Game changer.

Forget all the naysayers. You'll learn how to manage your rest and have an amazing time. And if you don't you can always bid off it and at least say you tried. I've been on the 330 for nearly 2 years and have loved every minute of it. Even the occasional long bus ride is no big deal...just close your eyes for a little power nap. And first break going over isn't that big of a deal to me either. You'll figure out what works for you and adjust. I can tell by your enthusiasm that you are going to have a blast. There is a reason it's so senior.

I appreciate it! I’m looking forward to it. I think the folks who are negative about it either haven’t tried it or they did and didn’t do their research before hand.

I flew with this guy once, he was a NB CA, who said basically “don’t go to the 350, did you know they have trips longer than 5 days?” I started laughing because I thought he was kidding but unfortunately there are people like that who bid without doing a minute of research and they end up hating it.

I flew with another guy who told me not to go international because they only do 12 day trips. We haven’t done a 12 day since the 747 I believe haha. I figured I’d try it for myself and go from there.

Haha...yep. Some people aren't very informed. Before I placed my bid I reached out to some people on Facebook and asked a lot of questions. Everyone was more than happy to share their experiences so I could make an informed decision. I realized quickly that I don't like 6 day trips, so now I bid reserve and make sure I don't have 6 days of availability. Other pilots love them because they reduce the amount of commuting. Just like the rest issues, you'll quickly figure out what works for you and adjust. To me the quality of life can't be touched, but everyone has their own opinion. That's why it's important to at least give it a try.

There needs to be an exclusive thread dedicated to Flex’s emotional support group that he never asked for. We can call it Flex’s safe space. There you can provide flex tips, tricks, tell him how to sleep, etc. and if you have nothing else to say—you could just chime in and say “hope your day today is your best day ever Flex. Thinking of you!! ❤️” maybe he can also share his schedule so people can track his flights in real time to make sure he gets there OK.
