the sli and some 10 hires probably helped his bes. Few 07 hires likely were ‘forced’ that long on reserve unless it was on purpose.

im an ‘07 hire and we were absolutely on Reserve in 2010….there was a SHORT period… months in ‘09 when I held a line and… Super recession, displaced & reserve for 3 more years. The SLI did nothing for those of us already on the bottom of the list and we only hired 300 in 2010., then no hiring until 2014.

So it’s not true that some 07 south hires went above 01 north hires? My bad, must be urban legend.

no that is a fact, 300 of us did. But it did Zero for getting anyone off reserve. It was a screw job for the bottom 300 NWA folks, all so the top 300 Whale drivers could gloat about “Super premium WB flying”. They got their wish and it was fenced off for 5 years anyway with no bump no flush… but they permanently screwed their own young in the process. But I have a feeling you knew all this. Lotsa folks don’t, don’t remember or don’t care.

Just as a reference point. I was an 08 hire. I was the plug on 73NB in CVG after 5-6 years here. That was after being MDd off the 7ER. We drug the bottom until mid to late 2014 after hiring resumed and there were finally options to move around. Commuting to RSV under the old rules wasn’t a great deal of fun.

That said, I always viewed myself as extremely lucky to get hired when I did. It was obvious that eventually it would be viewed as being on the very tip of a huge wave (just math and retirements). That has finally materialized. The movement the last few years has been unfathomable. We are hiring more in 1-2 months now than we had below us our first 6 years. It’s unreal! I hope it keeps going.

Less than 1000 hired 2007-2008 between NWA and Delta. Merger, age 65, and recession stopp hiring for 6 years other than 150 hired in 2010. 2014-2020 pretty good movement until covid shut it all down. 1800 early outs but no replacements. Then in 2022 retirements slowly started back up and hiring exploded. In 2023 the massive retirement wave that I’ve been waiting for my entire career finally kicked in and should last another 7 years (if age 67 doesn’t put in another 2 year delay), then in 2030, retirements come to a virtual stand-still again and movement quits for another half-decade or so.

There will be approximately 500 mandatory retirements in 2028 and 2029, 600 in 2030 and 500 in 2031 and 2032. What are you talking about standstill?

Not that it’s going to be a huge percentage, but I wonder since we’ve hired and flowed a number of older folks in this wave that some of these recent hires could be retiring by that point. Those retirements will obviously still affect new hire movement but won’t boost a large percentage of the group.

I have been keeping an eye on the retirement numbers. They SEEM virtually unchanged in the last 3-4 years. About 500-600 per year in the years I quoted. So maybe onesy twosie change in those years.

The ALPA dashboard shows between 450-550 mandatory retirements/yr between now and 2032. The VEOP took away the "bump" of 800/year that was supposed to be going on about now, and now it's just a consistent flow of guys departing from the top.

EDIT: Seems I'm just reiterating a point already made. Oh well, leaving it.
