I found that to be the case for me as well, others may not. Then again, as a NB guy, I rarely ever bid a line, and if I do, I certainly don't fly a full schedule of rotations from the bid packet. I think if I flew a full PBS awarded schedule every month, I'd probably be tired as well.

That said, I would never discount bidding down from NB A to WB B, in fact, it's on my radar down the road. I'll evaluate where I'd sit as a 320A vs 330B or 350B. Being top 10% in the right seat of a WB can be an insanely great QOL, especially for reserve bidders. As it stands right now, there isn't enough staffing/coverage to make the jump back. Of course there never may be, but pre-rona, blue days were aplenty, GS#2 was a unicorn and GS#1 often didn't make it out of the top 1/3rd of the category.

For all the reasons above <50% 7ERB was my favorite, until they ruined it with 5 day trips that were a Europe 3 day book ended with domestic days. That was truly the best of both worlds with summers in Europe and winters in the Caribbean. No more though, ahh the good ole days! The 757 is everything everybody says.

Yes all my Europe is bookended transcons. But it’s 5 day trips with 4 legs and I get to be on the west coast. So I don’t complain. Doing 4-6 JFK van rides to Manhattan for the last 6 months is exhausting. But I could always bid off the Europe and do 2 leg easy days with a long Cancun in there. Honolulu of course is easily attainable. Nice part of this fleet is the ease to bid off and do something else if you’re tired or want a break. But I do agree the bookend transcon flying can suck.

Probably pretty productive though I would guess.

After being delayed on todays 4th leg, waiting on shuttle, dealing with no APU just to make it fun, I got to call tracking to let them know what shuttle we were going to take …. hotel arrival +10 … so there’s that fun on NBA.

Is there going to be a separate projected training and conversations document for the Sept. 15 award?

The previous awards also contained projected training dates and yet they still published a separate training projection document 1-10 days after the awards came out.

And that's the elephant in the room many don't talk about. While WB flying is put on a pedestal here, in reality it seems like there's a hate it or love it attitude amongst pilots. I've talked to pilots that did it at Delta or in a previous life that said it was a cool experience but won't be returning to it due to perpetual fatigue due to lack of quality sleep. Many have complained that it accelerates age in your appearance as well. However the QOL benefits for a commuter or some senior bidding reserve cannnot be understated. That returns to my point that one of the best thing about Delta is the variety of flying amongst different fleets. Some pilots love Widebody flying. Some pilots have a lucrative side gig and want to fly as little as possible. Some pilots love the villes and the burgs layovers. Some pilots refuse to fly an Airbus product. Some pilots refuse to fly the 737. There is something for everyone.

Net Increase of 9 WB aircraft with the 7ER retirements in 2024. Adding in increased utilization and higher gauge aircraft on ex 7ER routes I expect strong increases in total WB Block hours which ultimately drives pilot staffing.
