Noob here to part 121 ops and headed for indoc on Tuesday - what is the timeframe between when the AE closes and when your newly-awarded domicile becomes your actual domicile? Can the dates vary? Do they phase them by fleet? Or does everyone’s new domicile become effective on the same day?

AE ‘s will have either a 210 or 365 day conversion window.

So it could be anywhere from 1 to 12 months before you convert to your new base.

Got it…I think. So the conversion happens inside the 210 or 365 day window, and the actual effective date is the result of some process that happens behind the curtain. How far in advance of the conversion date is the pilot notified?

Did I understand that correctly?

After the awards come out, Scheds takes a few weeks to come up with projected training and conversions. They have to generally convert people in seniority order (few exceptions) and if they are displacing people (think non vol) that is done in inverse seniority order. For those that need Qual on a new airplane, sim availability is taken into account.

Conversions will occur on the first day of each bid period (not month) within the 210/365 window.

You are typically notified around the last week of the month two months prior to the conversion.

So for someone converting 1 April, they would find out around last week of Feb, but NLT 4 March, which is when bidding for April starts.

And, in general if you’re going from a well staffed category to an under staffed one, you tend to go earlier in the conversion window, and the reverse is also true. Many base transfers (no training required) happen at the very end if people are leaving a critically short category.

That’s helpful, thanks! Commuting from TUS and pulled down NYC 73NB as a new hire (12/27 indoc). Hoping to end up in LAX sooner than later for ease of commute.
