I'd be concerned. This, coming from the group led by the guy that stated: "what's a SIL". Then laughed about it. I'd be very concerned they don't have a plan. I know I am concerned and I am not going to be affected by it one way or the other, I'm out at 65 and .000000001 seconds.

If the worst case for staffing happens, which is age 67 domestic, but ICAO doesn't follow, there's no provision in our contract for out of seniority displacements. That means paying people to stay home or they are going to have to open the contract and negotiate a side letter. Like all negotiations, both sides are going to demand certain concessions. It's going to be a mess. The training churn is going to be incredible. It's going to cost the airlines a fortune if it goes down like that. The training requirements alone will cause a bigger pilot shortage over the following years than raising the age will supposedly alleviate due to all the pilots offline for training.
I know the 65+ guys are driving hard to the goal and want to believe its a done deal, but I'd like to think that all of the airlines lobbyists and influencers are way ahead of them. That's how Washington works... follow the money. The vocal grassroots makes a lot of noise and gets a lots of press, but rarely wins in the end.

It's easy to say that definitively here in the friendly confines of the somewhat anonymous internet, but in reality, it's likely to be a lot more complicated than that. But of course you know that. Of course we know that being contrarian here is just your schtick, so your comment is taken in the proper context.

I think the company fears having to give concessions over the matter a lot less than ALPA would

As of now, Canada will not let pilots above age 65 to fly. So…in theory is the same…age changes in US and nowhere else, you can’t fly there as much as you would like to.

67 does nothing for us if they can't fly internationally. Are you going to train in the last 2 years for a downgrade? NO.
