Prepare yourselves… 2023 AEs

A CAPT LCA was on reserve and they assigned him on his on call days to do an Atlantic route qual for an FO on my trip last month. We all sign in and the LCA says Capt unless you want to go you are released. The FO getting the route qual..Newhire.. says , wait..I need to be in XYZ for a college visit with my son..do you mind if I get release instead….I said…sorry that’s not how that works..senior available is me, the Capt…..so….sorry about your luck., besides you are the one getting the checkout!
just one way where the senior FO might not get released.

I'm an early 14 hire and I'm still 2000+ numbers from Junior WB-A.... Don't see myself able to hold it for another 3 to 4 years.

Does that take into account all the retirements between now and then?
Anyhow age 67 is the big wildcard. If and when it passes, if ICAO follows suit, and what particular restrictions would be placed on over 65 Pilots. All unknowable variables at this time.

It's admittedly rare, but if you have multiple crews on augmented trips going thru hubs, the senior FO might have to stay to keep HIS crew integrity intact. We occasionally have 9 day trips that have a DTW layover in the middle. If my trip has an OE going, even if the DTW FO is senior to the originally scheduled FO that was with me, he still has to go. It sounds obvious while I'm typing this, but I have seen skeds look at all the FOs on my trip and just release the senior one which resulted in at least two GSs and a short call reserve getting called.

Yes I said depression. The current government policies are unsustainable and still fueling inflation. The average American has just about maxed out their credit. Once that happens, the spending is over.
I’m not as optimistic as everyone else. In the past, things were great…..until they weren’t. The downfalls have been swift and harsh.

Canada already said it won’t allow US pilots above 65 to fly over there. I’m sure ICAO will take longer to approve it. Age 67, if it passes it will be a bigger mess than what we think.

Age 67 going to freeze our list for 2 years, maybe 3 if it’s 67.99 like some people are saying. I never read the bill. Combine this with a depression and I don’t think it’s that far fetched to be getting hit with furlough threats next near by company to leverage us into concessions.

No offense, but I also walked past the BTU suggestions. Optimism is good, to an extent. Overt optimism, lack of critical thinking and arrogance (I am NOT saying you have these qualities) will get you into trouble. Know thyself.
