It is on every AE, whether by a posted position or because of people who bid out. I believe that every single 320 category had unfilled spots on the last AE so anyone who wanted ATL could hold it.

I literally couldn’t hold ATL 320 B for my first 6 years at the company.

It wasn’t on our drop, so I’m trying to decide if I should risk a west coast commute to get the plane I want..and hopefully get back to ATL soon.

considering that was 10-15 years ago how is that relevant?

New hires are getting 350B in ATL today, I bet you couldn’t hold ATL777B for a lot more than your first 6 years too.

I would bid the plane you want in a different base. As long as it’s a narrowbody (and we don’t have a black swan) you’ll get it awarded on the next AE. If that AE opens 6 Jan and closes on 16 Jan, you’ll probably move by August. If you start indoc next week, you’ll finish OE no earlier than about the end of March. (Request OE in your preferred base)

Can you handle the west coast commute for 5 months?

You don't know what you don't know. Nobody is saying you should pay your dues. They are trying to inform you. Being stuck on the junior airplane for years in a base you don't want was normal, and will be again. You are fortunate if that doesn't happen to you.
