It is certainly not the controlling factor, but if you are a senior FO, looking to bid “up” to NB A or WB B, something to consider if you are on the fence on timing.
The other thing people need to hear is you don’t get to bid holidayS. You’ll get one important holiday or one premium summer week. You can then tack your other week(s) on this week of vacation to stretch it but you can’t bid Thanksgiving and then the 4th of July and then Christmas and get them. You could bid #1 but it doesn’t matter because by the secondary bid you’ll the bidding the leftover weeks in October or February or other undesirable weeks. There will be no July or August weeks left and no important holidays left. Am I wrong on this?

Never pass up the opportunity to 5TFU. Somebody senior is reading this.

That might have been his point. Hoping someone senior decides to sit it out the next few bids upping his chances of snagging a seat. Waiting on vacation bidding is exactly my plan. I’d rather bid at less than 10 percent than 70 percent in new category. With monthly bidding not a huge deal to wait a few more months.

Ah yes, when you're changing the entire paradigm (from WB B to NB A), that makes more sense. As someone who entered WB B at 90% and continuously slid back in seniority to 95% before I left, I get that sentiment. That appears to be happening all over right now, as a junior buddy in my seat keeps sliding back in seniority. The dangers of bidding onto a seat as soon as you can hold it, is that others % bids start to trigger.

This is exactly what I ended up doing, but it was rather dumb luck that I trained so late (1 year bid) and was able to bid vacation in my previous seat. It was great bidding vacation at sub-10% and taking it to my 75% seniority lol.

The poor plugs on the 764 and 330. They’re gonna be junior for a long while as 3-4000 pilot senior to them come off their newhire locks.

Generally speaking yes. However this year I went for the summer vacation which I got and in the 2nd round received a week in December which I'm able to slide over Christmas due to my seniority. Even had I tried for that Christmas week vacation first, only 17 in my entire category got it. I'm top 15%, but still not senior enough for that week. I say for those on the sidelines reading this go for summer first round and then go for week in the holiday months on the next round. There is even the loophole to bid the weekend of Thanksgiving and buy days to slap in front of said vacation to get Turkey Day off. This also enables you to have a few days spilling into Dec to slide over as well.

You really can’t slap other “weeks” onto your vacation unless you get a 2 week bid in the first round. You can buy extra days, but not just tag your week 2 into it unless that week is still available (and if it is you should have gotten it if you got a multi week the first go round).

Whats your experience as a 350 new hire? You wanna stay or leave it? I’ve heard even the plug is better than being the number 1 NB FO!
