Yeah, I don't get the whole mock bid hysteria.

Bid what you want, with qualifiers if necessary. As soon as I check out on an airplane I update my AE preferences.

News flash. The kids don't care about tradition. They do what they want and what's best for them. Groundbreaking.
Don’t know about you but anytime I encounter turbulence, I transfer the plane to the co-pilot, grab my horse blanket from the closet, put my hat on, slowly and methodically grab the hand mike…..and report light chop.

I want to see my name in mock awards so I can pull my bid and sharp shoot my training.

I see your point. But there's absolutely no guarantee you can hold whatever you held on one particular AE on a future AE.

No logic allowed here!

Though I do think we are returning to a more stable environment, where “what I can hold“ might actually have a little more meaning once again, especially outside of the extreme margins.

There is because I’m not coming in at bottom of category. Entering category in top half with qualifiers.

I think many are catching onto this aspect. Last mock I played and was really contemplating the move, but elected to wait for holidays and 2024 vacation bidding. In casual conversations, some are thinking the same in thought process, while others seem to want to pull the move when the mock is showing junior guys in a spot they thought was out of reach. Keep the practice bids coming, and the idea that bids run with some known training timeframe less than a 6-12 month range is great. 22.H (golden days) is 1/1/24… that may be a big driver too in bids.

plus vacation. Moral of the story: junior guys should consider bidding now or next month before awards potentially start trending ‘senior’ for a few months (assuming CR honors their language of monthly bids).

Else bid next: summer training for Jr.

Don’t know who needs to hear this, but anyone considering bidding to a “less senior” category should keep in mind you bid vacation in the category where you are assigned (or projected to be assigned) on 31 Jan, which is in the February bid period. PWA 7.C.3

It is certainly not the controlling factor, but if you are a senior FO, looking to bid “up” to NB A or WB B, something to consider if you are on the fence on timing.
