WAY back right after the merger, I conducted a perfectly legal & acceptable PCS transaction, because, hey that's what the transition documents said you could do. Not five minutes after the PCS run I get this phone call from some dude ripping me a new one because of "yada, yada, yada, curse, curse, curse, your taking away my money Northie, blah, blah, blah".
Had he said "hey man, if you do this, that and this other thing, everyone benefits", I'd have listened to him and thanked him for the advice.
Instead I was way more polite than I should have been in telling him to buzz off.

Just look at the schedules of those around your seniority. People look at mine all the time and I'll look at others as well, normal people don't care. If you're really worried, just go look at their previous months schedules, which is good anyway, as you want to see what they're doing over a long period of time. I did this before making my last move and one of the guys actually called me to chat about what each of us were doing as he was thinking of bidding my seat. If someone does give you crap, they're probably paranoid about something they're doing...so be sure to watch them more, you'll probably learn a trick or two lol.
All very important points, which is why it's great to look at a handful of people at your base and seniority. You may have wildly different experiences of those 20% senior and/or in a different base. Also, are you (and you spouse if it applies) good with longer trips? I flew with a guy who was leaving the 330 because his wife couldn't stand him being gone for 6+ days at a time (young kids) and he didn't want to bid reserve (commutes). I didn't mind them at first, but I just got sick of the 6 day trips and now I'd rather not even fly a 3 day, but I don't commute.

Any tips on bidding for training? Heading to Mecca end of this month till pretty much oct 27th. Do I even have to bid or will it all prepopulate training on my schedule? Also, if I wanted to request OE out of a base other than the base I’m on, is that an icrew function? Tia

Failing that, heed Scoop's advice and go find your OE planner in one of the OC's (can't remember if it's OC1 or OC2). If you walk in with a smile, they will likely rifle though the 200 monthly schedules they have printed out, check if you have any self-input remarks, and pencil in a few notes.

Not much you can do with bidding if you're in training until the 27th. As far as requesting OE at a particular base, just make friends with the OE planner while in training. Big thing is to let them know ASAP and probably send a kind reminder as it gets closer, just don't be a PITA. For my newhire OE, as a NYC guy I requested DTW...I got ATL and SLC, and a trip over Christmas. I had heard about the 73 OE planner back then, but I didn't realize she had no heart lol. I've heard others had better luck with OE planners.
