Start reading post 4529 in this thread. It was just discussed a couple of days ago.

People have this misunderstanding about secondary vacancies because for years the company has always posted these huge excessive numbers of NBB spots that inevitably don’t get filled by bidders. A middle ground would be to require the company to fill any posted A or WWB positions. Still let them over-post NBB since that does allow recent NHs the most flexibility in getting to their desired base the fastest.

Agreed ...poor wording on my part. Unawarded is more accurate.

Ant thanks for the point out Tennis.....For as long as I can remember, your facts/interpretations is not what has been the mainstream mantra!

Small point of order, in case someone misreads this and is confused. There is no mechanism for unfilled A positions to be awarded to NH’s.

22.E.10 “If no pilot bids on a First Officer category vacancy, the Company may assign an entry level pilot to fill the vacancy.”

Right, I wasn't saying unfilled A's would go to NH's, rather I was assuming that every posted A position would have enough available/qualified bidders that the company would be forced to fill what they posted. Naturally if there was an A position that no one wanted then the company would not be able to fill that position.

On related topic of unfilled A’s going to new hires, that very stipulation is in the new UA TA.

Good conversations, I like it! I guess I’m referring to the last AE how there were 9 ATL330B posted, and 0 DTW330B postings. When the final award came out, they only awarded backfills. Turned out to be 6 ATL330B awards and 11 DTW330B awards. So the moral of the story is, Atlanta had 9 posted openings and Detroit had 0 yet Detroit ended up nearly double the amount of awards. Kinda funny that’s all. Maybe it created too much turnover so they slashed all of the openings in Atlanta?

I noticed in the memos that they will tell you if they may or may not fill all of the posted positions. I wonder if they have to say that in advance if they plan on doing that?

Absolutely true, though I would note they have a different dynamic in their contract for why A's are going unfilled. Still, that's a "mgmt" problem to fix, and we should NEVER consider fixing that problem here, should it ever arise again (not likely anytime in the foreseeable future, I grant you.)

No, they do not. Unless/until we get contract language preventing it, it is their discretion. That's why AE's used to take so long to get published, because they were tweaking those kinds of things in each "run" of the AE, and it was like 8-12 hours for the computer to gonk a rusult. The new software CR is now using shortens each 'run' to mere minutes, so they can try a bunch of perturbations in a short time span.

Following up on this after looking at Octobers trips. Zero 1-days and eight 2-days. Lots of 30 hours, Lots of DHing around the system, not sure how that is "better," but I guess someone is getting what they like. Would love to see a bid packet posted with a min % of 1 and 2 days trips.

And yet this last Jan-Mar they built dozens and dozens of one- and two-day trips in the bid packet and the world didn’t end.
