Just tell me where you’re hosting your widebody award party and I’ll buy the first round! Let us know when the official award comes out if you held in there.

Love your enthusiasm, brother,

Just because all the training months (from what I saw) say November, I’m sure some of that training will be in December and OE will be flirting with Christmas.
I think this will be the case for at least a few. Sample shows ATL330B but I’ve stayed senior this far for the QOL for family… might just wait until a Jan training month AE to put bids back in. Still debating.

If you are eligible for a first time captain bid, then just do it. You will be awarded the new position and will only be trained on the last award under 22.E.17.

I am assuming the poster was previously awarded one CA position and is now looking at another.

but if not then please follow the above advise, same end result without burning your once in a career “get out of jail free” card

I think he’d be safe to hold off on that get out of jail free card. He’d only have to train for the most recent award if he got one that required training on the Aug or Sept AE.

yeah be careful… if you pull the once in a career trigger you add 2 years to your current freeze…then if you pull the 1st time Capt card, you could potentially add 2 years to that as well…

Getting married next summer and a honeymoon, so sitting 90%’s will surely screw that up. I don’t wanna fall in that bid it then regret it later. Especially since what I’m doing now is just as fun. But long term the 330 is the goal… it’s just once your seniority pops up it makes you feel FOMO since I’ve been wanting this for a couple years lol

I'm currently a NB A in ATL, and I'm strongly considering 350 B in ATL. I could have held it on this past mock AE.

I'm hoping to spend fewer days at work per month, and I am attracted to the new and more comfortable airplane. I've snooped some schedules of guys junior to me on the 350, and they are either flying 3 day Europe trips on Tuesdays or bidding reserve and not getting used for a month or more. My wife and I live well below our means, so I'm willing to trade some pay for QOL. I flew 7ER B out of NYC for my first year here, and I really enjoyed the international flying.

My major concern is that I upgraded when I grew tired of the free unscheduled flying lessons, political diatribes, and unsolicited career and financial advice. I was an ATL NB B when I bid for upgrade. What's the culture like on the 350? Do most guys get to cruise and pull out the newspaper or a book, or is top of climb the signal to tell "junior" how he hasn't earned the right to sit in the right seat, and he should feel fortunate that the way has been paved by those magnanimous souls in the left seat?

Well, currency is a real thing on the airplane. There is a lot of cooperate and graduate on the fleet. There is almost always some sort of input from one of the other pilots (from FO to Captain as well) because you just don’t get to fly that many legs per month and there is a LOT more info (not that it is all required to fly the jet) than any plane I have been on. So, if you don’t like “hey, did you know it can be done this way” then you might not want to come over.

The tone in the cockpit (and layover) is really nice. I have only had maybe 2 pilots so far talking like they were doing prime time commentary for MSNBC
