APDs and IVDs are often blocked from being used on holidays.

Like you said…often. It’s not a hard no in the PWA, so you might as well try. YMMV. I got Xmas day off on an APD while on reserve. Hasn’t happened since as a line holder.

Best I do is convince them to rob Peter to pay Paul. Swap a 3 day holiday trip for an earlier 4 day trip. I’ve had way more success on this. They get desperate close in and sometimes allow it to go through. I got thanksgiving off last year using that method.

bid reserve.

What section of the contract allows reserve guarantee to be reduced if a pilot is unqualified to fly to a destination?

It won’t be a windfall of pay for no work like the vocal minority is so fond of. Remember the min balance plan?
So they are just going to stop paying people that are legal to work due to no fault of their own? Okay, bid reserve and then you can only be awarded trips you are legal to fly. They did that for Covid.

Or they force people into training and get paid to sit home and wait for training and burn sick time and vacation and the company just trained a pilot to fly the line for 3 months before they just retire anyway. Either scenario isn’t good for the company.

My bet is on Monday afternoon if I'm optimistic. I'd be surprised if they're not out by Wednesday

Maybe we should do a study on increasing pilot ages before we raise the age. EASA did; their findings are linked below.

EASA Study
interesting how sudden death increases exponentially with age.
I especially liked the sentence on p.25 "sudden death will lead to a most unpredictable and complete incapacitation of a pilot"

as already mentioned, 60% gives you some swap/drop and APD/IVD availability. First year here, very junior…barely
held a line. (Like 80-85%) got turkey day off with an APD on the Wednesday. Swaps into worst days opens up options. Just used my first IVD in 6+ years to clear a 5 day. Lots of
tools available, but I’ll say 60% or better to make things work. Some above will bid reserve, some want to work for their own reasons. 60% in category is the back end of the prop, but it’ll get done with tools available.
