Yeah probably true for most fleets. Not in the short term anyways, especially with this demand.
And this is delta after all. They will say an airplane is being phased out and it will still fly for 10+ years until the market dictates its retirement lol

They were going to upgrade the MD-88’s and 90’s at one point. Had a flight trainer and everything. Not a single plane was updated.

Nice thanks! Does it sound like it’ll be smaller like the last one?

The CRT screens aren’t manufactured anymore. So they have no choice but to upgrade them with LCD’s as the CRT’s die/dim. This will require a fairly significant rewire of the cockpit to accommodate them. While they are at it, they will put the 321 Wx radar in the 320/319, and retrofit CPDLC into many of them - some don’t have the architecture to upgrade.

I would suspect these oldest airframes (~40, mostly one’s with the super old crap seats) will be retired unless ticket traffic picks up so much they need them for a time.

The whole process will take at least 2 years to complete, even with a heavy effort. There is plenty of time to decide to keep/retire significant numbers.

As we have seen from the prior cabin refresh projects on the 777 and others, spending money doesn’t necessarily protect hulls.

Yes. They are going to “monthly”, which requires they will nearly ALL be like the last one absent a 335-day AE. (Though, as I argued previously in posts 3393 & 3399, the last one was not ‘small’ by the standards of the last couple of pre-Covid years, it was actually on the larger side.)

I would expect around 400+/- vacancies. I would also expect the incremental/slow metering of WB B vancancies (vice a large “dump” in one AE). As they more “surgically” plan the training for each month’s conversions/training.

*edited* to add/refine.

Agreed. He gave no indication besides they'll be working in tandem with training for sim availability.

My question is, could this be an indication for future indoc classes to know what their drop could be? For arguments sake if MSP320B had unbid openings last month but they didn't post any this month. Can they still offer those positions in August to newhires or only the most recent unbid openings?
