Oh, was only funnin' with ya. So glad they went to Euros. I still have "wallets" with Drachmas, Lira, D-marks, Francs, Guilders not to mention the assorted rubles, Rands, Yuans, Pounds, Rupees, Yen, Reals, Bahts ...and....

My favorite, several turkish Lira notes of the 1,000,000. kind. I made my kids instant ":millionaires" with 1 note which was worth about US $3.50. When I took them to Turkey about a year later, that same million lire note was worth about $2.30 US

I used a 1 Million Turkish Lira note as a bookmark in my logbook for years. I think it was ~400,000 to the dollar when I got it in '99, so it was worth about $2.50. In 2005, they devalued it to take all 6 zero's off. It's worth about 4 cents today. It's no wonder the rug shop owner was so ecstatic when I bought a few rugs with USD.

What if I told you that you had just as much of a chance (if not more) of getting mugged or your wallet stolen stateside as you do at the majority of our overseas layovers?

Live your life I guess.

Be smart and you won’t have to live it in a constant state of paranoia.

Even if you are "smart" there is also just crime, and it happens.

I used to wonder if Iberian crews used to be warned about pick pockets in NYC like we always were for Madrid?

Agreed, but do you carry around a special travel wallet “just in case” everywhere you go everyday of your life?

That’s more my point. Some of you seem overly paranoid.

Some self awareness and common sense would do these guys a lot more than a special wallet..

I write my room number on my wrist (because I don't bring my phone out with me in case I get robbed), only take cash, photo ID, and hotel room card (sans sleeve).

Head on a swivel boys!!!

What if your hand falls off with the room key in it? 🤔

That's a good point. I'll just stay in my room from now on and eat food I've brought with me. Don't want to get delivery or room service. Too much of a threat.
